| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 23, 2008 2008 recipe. Perhaps due to the popularity of Jocamo IPA, this years Christmas Ale offering from Abita appears to be based on a modified recipe of Jocamo. Its a similar deep red/amber color with a medium sized tan head. Nose is of caramel and rich malts. Taste is malty with a slight hint of nuts. Where it differers from the IPA is that the hops are dialed way back in this one by comparison. The flavor of the hops begins to peek through in the finish, leaving a nicely bitter sweet aftertaste. | 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 23, 2008 Light amber with a small white head. Peppery aroma and flavor. Kind of spicy, yet strangely bland. Mostly just caramel malt with a dash of spice. Thin. Not a lot going for it. Meh. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Dec 23, 2008 Tap and in bottles at Sunset Grill late 2008. Sparse beige head runs away quickly from this ordinary amber-looking beer. Clear, with bits of cooked veggies, cardboard and hints of brown sugar making themselves known in the nose. What this has to do with christmas or any special occasion is anyones guess, as this, after trying some and then pouring the rest out, is a poorly lagered/brewed amber ale that dosent seem to even be brewed to the quality of their normal amber lager. Bland, flawed and with almost no trace of hops are anything else interesting. bbbrew (183), Washington DC, USA

I get six of them for the price of 2 Duvels, so I am generally less critical. The pour is amber, with a light head, leaves little lace. The aroma is simple, hoppy and somewhat fruity. It is distinctly Abita in taste, so if you like Amber or and of the lighter ales, you understand the hoppy, bitter, with sweet highlights taste I am referring to. This edition adds a bit of spice, giving a somewhat heavier taste and palate. After taste is nothing to phone home about. Ultimately, a decent, inexpensive day-to-day beer for the holiday season for fans of Abita.
