Commercial Description:
The newest Abita brew takes its name and inspiration from the Mardi Gras Indians of New Orleans. Looking for Indians on Mardi Gras Day is a tradition for many New Orleans families. A cultural phenomenon familiar to residents of the Crescent City, the Mardi Gras Indians are not well known to outsiders and Abita is proud to help share their story with the world.

Nice amount of pine/citrus hops with some caramel on the nose. Bitter/astringent hops profile. Not anything complex, but a decently good tasting beer.

Hazy amber. Thick head. Herbal, woody hop aroma is a little faint. Fruity-berryish hop character and fairly low bitterness. Poorly extracted malts. Kind of watery.

Bottle. Pours a nice amber with some haze. Aroma has a nice cascade aroma. Taste is similar - not over powering. A mild IPA or strong pale ale. Good.

On tap at D.B.A. in New Orleans. Pours a slightly hazy amber copper color with a one finger white head. Aroma is sweet and floral with notes of citrus, grapefruit, citrus, pine, some hints of honey and caramel. Flavor is much of the same with a stronger hop presence. Generally medium body with a pleasing floral hop finish.

Had on tap in a Stella glass. Color was a hazy orange with a nice white head. Started off with a strong citrus smell with some piney hops mixed in. Taste of piney hops and citrus, but the big surprise was the amount of malt sweetness. More sweetness than usual in an IPA.

Bottle. Pours a ruby amber with a medium large tanned cream colored head. Some floral hops on the nose, and that off-putting burnt nut smell that I’ve had in the last two Abita beers I’ve rated (Pecan Harvest, Xmas Ale). The malt on here is a dead ringer for one of the extracts I’ve used in a homebrew. Medium to thick body, sweet towards the end, malty and almost empty in the middle. Some bitterness on the finish. Rather lacking.

12 oz. bottle served in shaker- poured transparent solid dark copper color, low carbonation, nice one head off tan finger formed and laced to a degree. Aroma of malt, pine, citrus, and a little black pepper in the background. Hits the mouth with a pleasant medium body, malt is very enjoyable and holds up nicely through the finish, hops come in towards the end, finish is slightly acidic and has a sweet note interlaced with it. The other 5 are in DANGER today!
