Commercial Description:
The newest Abita brew takes its name and inspiration from the Mardi Gras Indians of New Orleans. Looking for Indians on Mardi Gras Day is a tradition for many New Orleans families. A cultural phenomenon familiar to residents of the Crescent City, the Mardi Gras Indians are not well known to outsiders and Abita is proud to help share their story with the world.

12 oz. bottle served in shaker- poured transparent solid dark copper color, low carbonation, nice one head off tan finger formed and laced to a degree. Aroma of malt, pine, citrus, and a little black pepper in the background. Hits the mouth with a pleasant medium body, malt is very enjoyable and holds up nicely through the finish, hops come in towards the end, finish is slightly acidic and has a sweet note interlaced with it. The other 5 are in DANGER today!

Another great offering from Abita. Why can’t they have the courage to make all their beers this good. Great color, nice aroma, really a nice pale ale. They should stick to what they do well, because other than turbodog, and this, they do not impress me.

Comes out of the tap an appetizing hazy dark amber. Rich, hoppy aroma has a malty overtone and just a touch of spice. Lively flavor is fairly hoppy, nicely bitter, with just a touch of spice, mainly cinnamon, and malt, as well as a whisper of sweetness. Smooth texture is tingly and spicy, very satisfying.

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of light bread and caramel, light pine and moderate orange for the hops, light broth for the yeast, with raisin and pepper in the background. Head is average sized, frothy, off-white with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is slightly hazy orange/tan. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic then finishes lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery and has a lively carbonation. Some good aspects but weak in others. Drinkable but definitely not one of my favorites.

Pretty decent aroma of grapefruit and pine, and considering how long this has been in the fridge I am surprised. A bit of sweet-ish caramel malt as well. Pours a nice amber color with a fantastic frothy head that has been sitting on the beer for 3o minutes now. Citrus, pine, and caramel sweetness with a little lingering bitterness. Drinks rather clean, is well made, and I could session this.

Bottle. Pours an amber color, quite clear with a medium sized, frothy white head. Lacing is very good. Aromas of both citrus and spruce, with a hint of malt. Lively initial taste with an oily, slick finish. Somewhat creamy texture as well. Flavor is surprisingly light compared to the smell, with hops abound. While most people would probably want more from a beer, I love hops so really did enjoy this pint.

Poured a nice copper hue with a frothy white head that had nice lacing. Aroma was mainly of resinous pine notes and some citrus. Flavor had a good hop profile balanced out by typical caramel malts, seemed a little on the ligh side but still a good IPA. Would have again.
