Commercial Description:
The newest Abita brew takes its name and inspiration from the Mardi Gras Indians of New Orleans. Looking for Indians on Mardi Gras Day is a tradition for many New Orleans families. A cultural phenomenon familiar to residents of the Crescent City, the Mardi Gras Indians are not well known to outsiders and Abita is proud to help share their story with the world.

12oz bottle. Pours clearish amber with a good size, offwhite head, specks of lace. Smells mild and sweet citrus hoppy, malts as well. Tastes malty and sweet up front with a sweet citrus hop finish. Not very bitter, but still balanced and tastes good. Medium body, good carbonaiton.

[1601-20080816] 12floz bottle. Mild grains aroma has some floral notes. Clear, amber brown body with quick white bubbles. Mild floral grains flavour has some sweetness and some wood notes. Medium body. Average.

Bottle. Poured amber with a white head that leaves light lacing. Floral and grain aroma. Caramel and grapefruit flavor. Medium body and a medium bitterness throughout. A decent everyday IPA.

Probably because I’m not a big IPA drinker, I was pleasantly surprised by this brew: great aroma, floral with grainy and citrus (orange) tones; copper color; small, creamy head; decent mouthfeel. It’s a little bland for an IPA but that just means it doesn’t come with a drier than dry, bitter, too spicy mouthfeel, which actually make it more enjoyable for non-IPA fans.

Fresh bottle. Pours a clear, dark orange-amber color with a decently retained, frothy, cream colored head. Random spots and flares of lace mark the glass. Aromas include tangerine rind, orange juice, lightly sweet caramel malts, and a grainy, grassy overtone. Flavors include biscuity malts and caramel, with citrus and grassy hops lending balance. Medium bodied and moderately carbonated, it drinks easier than its 6.5% would suggest. Doesn’t score any points for originality, that’s for sure. Adequate when ultra-fresh, but you can tell this one will fade very quickly.

2008-08-16. Orange boy with a small cream coloured head. (3+) Muted aroma has brief grainy character. Flavour of rough grains, resin and light bitterness. Muddled. Average palate. Meh. Better than suggested by my notes but didn’t offer enough to warrant much attention in a crowd of IPAs. Bottle, Coles IPA Festival, Buffalo

Clear amber pour with a small creamy head that lasts. Sweet citrus hop and malt aroma. Flavor is sweet with lots of light fruit and a nice floral-pine hop bite on the finish. Medium bodied. A decent 6 pack IPA.

Bottled at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Clear pink/amber, small creamy head. Light mango aroma. Sweet and clean with light-medium body. Quite fruity with some unexpe4cted cocoa. Finishes slightly metallic with medium bitterness. The primitive, hard malt character is the biggest drawback.
