Commercial Description:
The newest Abita brew takes its name and inspiration from the Mardi Gras Indians of New Orleans. Looking for Indians on Mardi Gras Day is a tradition for many New Orleans families. A cultural phenomenon familiar to residents of the Crescent City, the Mardi Gras Indians are not well known to outsiders and Abita is proud to help share their story with the world.

Pours a medium amber with a full head that hangs around for a few minutes. Hoopy aroma with faint evergreen hints. Of course, being an IPA, the taste is predominantly hoppy, but there is also a prominent citrus presence. It’s not bad, but it’s missing an earthy tone that I like in an IPA. Pair this brew with a seared pork tenderloin with plum sauce, garlic mashed potatoes and a spring mix salad, for a contrast of flavors.

A- Pours a clear readdish orange hue with a nice 1.5 finger head. S- Smells hoppy, mostly grapefruit and citrusey notes. T- Taste starts out bitter and citrusey and goes downhill from there. Pretty one dimensional. The middle and the end are fairly bland. M- Fairly thin with lots of carbonation. D- Decently drinkable. I could session this but after one I wasn’t incredibly impressed. Not bad at all however nothing really stuck out to me.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with a 1/2 inch off white head. Aroma is sweet and hoppy but not overwhelming. Taste is hoppy with a bitter bite and a bit malty. Thin on the palate.

Bottle. The body is light copper with a lightly off white head. The aroma was grapefruit with some caramel. The taste has some sweet bread crust with a toasted finish. There are hints of orange peel with the light body. It’s ok.

Not bad, but a bit meh for an IPA. Orangish gold with a thick off-white head. Light hop aroma and taste, more of an amber than an IPA, really. Flavor is subtle hops over malt. Nothing remarkable, but not bad.

Bottle poured into a shaker - Pours golden amber, slight orangy red. Large head for an IPA - but disipates quickly... Strong hoppy aroma. Flavor is like most IPAs of hops. Flavor is hoppy as well with a taste of alcohol. Nice Beer, I honestly didn’t expect it to be as good as it is. Will have again - not sure why the others rated this low... make sure to check the expiration date before buying... Mine expires in a month.

Bottle...very one-dimensional brew, and not a good example of an IPA. A honey-like sweetness predominates with the smell and taste of sour apples. Light head. Alcohol, though 6.5%, is not noticeable. Some bitterness on the finish. I can’t wait to finish this six-pack because I do not want it to take up any more space in the beer fridge.

Fairly light hop nose...mild pine and citrus. The pour is attractive enough...coppery gold with a moderate and quickly fading head. The flavors are pretty muted for the style...light pine and grapefruit, caramel and toffee...but all very subdued. I’d like to see a much bolder step taken in this direction by this brewery!
