Commercial Description:
The newest Abita brew takes its name and inspiration from the Mardi Gras Indians of New Orleans. Looking for Indians on Mardi Gras Day is a tradition for many New Orleans families. A cultural phenomenon familiar to residents of the Crescent City, the Mardi Gras Indians are not well known to outsiders and Abita is proud to help share their story with the world.

Copper pour, fluffy head. Some citrus hops, but malty, abit sweeter than expected, more like a pale ale, good drink though, just not much in an IPA kind of way.

Draft at International Beer Garten (Lutz, FL). Pours a typical IPA color of copper/amber with a foamy off-white head. Nice amount of citrus/pine hops in the aroma and flavor. I would classify this one in the middle of the pack for IPAs with respect to the amount of hop bitterness, but a decent selection.

A nice, super fruity APA aroma. Medium tan-orange, fluffy khaki head, pretty good label, the usual Abita screw-off potato-masher bottle. Rich, acidic, not too sweet, but fruity, nicely bittered without being over-brewed and cabbage-y. Woody alcohol tones. Gives a salty impression in the bitter vanilla/citrus aftertaste. Medium-heavy, slightly starchy body. Abita Springs’ hard water is an excellent water for brewing ales - lots of dissolved limeston- and that gives the mouthfeel a nice buoyancy. Nice balance, like most of Abita’s offerings, it’s not stellar but it’s quality. Publix. Oh, and by the way, I’ve moved back into a tie with PorterPounder for most ratings of Abita.

Pours dark orangey with a white head that dissipates pretty quickly. The aroma is slight citrus hops but big malt. The flavor is overwhelmingly malty and caramelly with just an aftertaste of hops and bitterness. Really not hoppy enough for an IPA!

Sampled at the 8th Annual Music City Brewer’s Festival. Orange with an off white head. Big spicy citrus aroma, caramel and fruit notes. Taste is caramel, fruity citrus hops, not very bitter, but good.

12oz bottle. Pours a crystal clear, lighter copper-orange body with a finger-width, off-white, beige head that dissipates quickly and leaves a light vail of lacing on the surface and some sticky lace-work on the glass. Aroma is a good amount of fruity hops and a sweet caramel. Woody mangos and grapefruit, pineapple, berries, and a light sugary pine. Flavor is weaker than the aroma. Has a really weird maltiness. Its full bodied, but doesn’t really taste like anything. Its acting like a filler. There are still a good amount of hops present, but the awkward malts make them feel kind of watery and never blend together well. Fruity with a good amount of flowery citrus, berries, and mangos. Finishes slightly dry with a sweet and flowery citrus aftertaste, but more of that bland maltiness. Overall, something is off with the malts. The hop flavor is really nice, but this needs some work.
