Commercial Description:
The newest Abita brew takes its name and inspiration from the Mardi Gras Indians of New Orleans. Looking for Indians on Mardi Gras Day is a tradition for many New Orleans families. A cultural phenomenon familiar to residents of the Crescent City, the Mardi Gras Indians are not well known to outsiders and Abita is proud to help share their story with the world.

Pours dark orangey with a white head that dissipates pretty quickly. The aroma is slight citrus hops but big malt. The flavor is overwhelmingly malty and caramelly with just an aftertaste of hops and bitterness. Really not hoppy enough for an IPA!

Sampled at the 8th Annual Music City Brewer’s Festival. Orange with an off white head. Big spicy citrus aroma, caramel and fruit notes. Taste is caramel, fruity citrus hops, not very bitter, but good.

12oz bottle. Pours a crystal clear, lighter copper-orange body with a finger-width, off-white, beige head that dissipates quickly and leaves a light vail of lacing on the surface and some sticky lace-work on the glass. Aroma is a good amount of fruity hops and a sweet caramel. Woody mangos and grapefruit, pineapple, berries, and a light sugary pine. Flavor is weaker than the aroma. Has a really weird maltiness. Its full bodied, but doesn’t really taste like anything. Its acting like a filler. There are still a good amount of hops present, but the awkward malts make them feel kind of watery and never blend together well. Fruity with a good amount of flowery citrus, berries, and mangos. Finishes slightly dry with a sweet and flowery citrus aftertaste, but more of that bland maltiness. Overall, something is off with the malts. The hop flavor is really nice, but this needs some work.

Bottle poured a clear tarnished copper with a lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel, earthiness and fruittiness. Palate was medium boidied and smooth with a lightly dry finish. Flavors of carmel, earthiness and light pine with a smooth dry moderatly bitter finish. More of a pale ale in my opinion, try again Abita.

Tasted at the San Diego International Beer Festival. Light orange with a grassy hoppy aroma and taste. Nothing special.

12 oz bottle: Aroma is nicely citrus hoppy and some bready malt backing. Appearance is a golden/amber with a really thick head that lingers around for quite a while. Taste is citrus hop, candy sugar, some malt mixed in there a little bit. Palate is rather clean with a lingering slightly hopped aftertaste. Overall, a rather mild IPA in my honest opinion. Cheers!

Pretty average for an IPA. Nothing really impressed me and I have 5 other bottles to consume. A sweet musty nose, like old oranges/ceral with an off iced tea nose. Flavor is medium sweet, like sweetened cereal or cheap cookies and old hops. Just didn’t do anything for me except set me back $8 for the sixer. Hoo-ray.
