Commercial Description:
The newest Abita brew takes its name and inspiration from the Mardi Gras Indians of New Orleans. Looking for Indians on Mardi Gras Day is a tradition for many New Orleans families. A cultural phenomenon familiar to residents of the Crescent City, the Mardi Gras Indians are not well known to outsiders and Abita is proud to help share their story with the world.

Pours a nice amber with a nice lasting beige head. Smell is mildly hoppy with some fruity caramel. Taste is grainy, hoppy, a bit metallic with some off flavor, but still decent and drinkable. Medium body, crisp carbonation.

sampled at the Abita tasting at grape & gourmet. pours a clear, golden orange with a thin, soapy white head and light lacing. aroma was very nice with bright, floral hops, citrus, and a hint of pale malt. flavor was solid as well with citrus and pine hop notes, a touch of grass, and a slight sweetness. palate is smooth, slightly thin, with good carbonation and a dry, citrus hop finish. overall, a solid session IPA.

Bottle. A clear dark orange with a big soapy offwhite head, spotty lacing. Aroma is big fresh floral and citrus hops with a toasty caramel. Flavor is slightly piny, citrus with a big sweet caramel malt backbone, hints of pineapple and grapefruit exist but are faint. Light to medium body, medium carbonation, long lightly bitter finish, quite sessionable, and a pretty good IPA.

On tap in New Orleans at multiple locations throughout the French Quarter, during 40th Annual Jazz & Heritage Festival weekend, May 09. Clear golden color, with short-lived white head. Light aroma of stale hops and some grass, but with a mildly sweet note of orange citrus. Flavor is sessionable, with a medium bitterness and floral hops presence. Light malt sweetness balances it out. Finish is lacking depth and character, with a grainy cereal note. Thin and too simple, but easy to drink.

Pours a gorgeous dark orange with a 3/4-inch head that recedes slowly. Aroma is pretty typical: Good old grapefruity hops and other citrus fruits. Flavor is pretty malty for an IPA, and it works out well. The hoppiness is medium, average for the style. There is also a distinct floral essence in the center. Finishes pretty dry. Mouthfeel is full, thicker viscosity. A very nice IPA, in my opinion. I could drink a lot of this, actually. Underrated. Overall, very good. Thanks Abita.

Reviewed 4/27/2009 (Bottle): Pours a light amber brown clear colored body, foamy off-white head, lasting-ish. Hoppy aroma, earthy. Pungent. Malty taste, some fruity, citrusy notes. Hoppy taste. Less hops as it warms up, more sweet and malty. Eh.
