BBB63 (3677), La Porte, Indiana, USA May 1, 2008 Bottle and served in my GI IPA tulip: Coppery hue with a mostly lasting frothy head and very good lace upon the glass. The aroma has notes of resiny and piney hops, light grapefruit ester, caramel and bready malt, hint of mint and some peppery vapours as well. The taste starts mildly acidic and fruity with a fair amount of hop bitterness backed by a layer of biscuity malt. The finish is a tad chalky and a bit of hop spice. The mouth feel is lively and slightly sharp, a tad thin for the flavor profile, minerally finish. All in all a solid offering and drinkable IPA. Better than most beers from this brewery.
PorterPounder (2758), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jul 19, 2008 Tallahassee, Fl. - Leon Pub - 12 oz bottle. Bright orange pour with a thin, but sticky white head. Odd aroma - some toe jam , a bit of peach marmalade. Flavor is a bit muddled with some sticky apricot notes, some cake mix sweetness and maple syrup. Missing that citrusy bite usually associated with IPAs. Mouthfeel is thick enough. Misses the mark just slightly. ElGaucho56 (353), USA Jul 16, 2008 Pours a lighter amber with mildly frothy head, some lacing. Nose of sticky caramel malts, some piney residue. More pine on the palate, orange juice citrus character, ends somewhat wooden with a very mild bitterness. A decent IPA. EithCubes (1755), Indiana, USA Jul 15, 2008 Bottle. Big, sweet, rich caramel malt nose, loads and loads of PNW hops, grapefruit and orange and lychee and sticky pine. Superb hop bouquet! Clear copper body with a soapy beige head. Light body, strongly but not off-puttingly bitter with flashes of sweetness, big sticky caramel with outside pine needles and a touch of resin. Not as good in the end as was expected from the first cap pop, but still a solid, serviceable IPA. Drnk_McDermott (1518), Park Forest, Illinois, USA Jul 14, 2008 12 oz. twist-top from Sam’s Wines. A rich copper body with a fluffy light tan IPA head. Smell shows hop resins, malt smell that suggests this somehow was roasted darker than it appears. Some kind of cereal in the smell, or unroasted barley. Tastes nice. Malts tend more toward a nut brown ale, which would favor the American Pale Ale more, but no, the hops stay closer to the English iteration. In fact, despite a nice pepper, floral and grassy hop note, with a touch of pine, it still stands back for the beer’s full roast malt. Whatever else, it’s just very nice drinking. badnewsbeers (961), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Jul 14, 2008 pours hazy, amber in color with large head..aroma of grassy hops, clove and a touch of sweet malt...flavor is most hoppy, mostly floral, lightly resinous....
