Commercial Description:
Abita Red Ale is a traditional red ale. It is brewed with British pale and crystal malts, Liberty hops and an ale yeast imported from Ireland. This ale has a rich ruby color, lacy collar, pronounced caramel flavor and is a tad "hoppier" than our other brews. Available March thru June.

(12oz bottle on July 15, 2008 from 6pk trade with William) First of all, before I even pour this, the guy that gave this 6 pack to me said he bought a case of these for only $10. Should I be scared? Red label, "Abita Ale Red Ale". Pours a semi-cloudy orange amber into pint glass with small head, steady carbonation, quickly falling lacing. Yeasty grainish aroma. Flavor is... not that great. I think I made a face with this one. Very light and watery body. Spicy aftertaste. Now... that flavor... bitter yeast. That’s about all I get from it. It’s a bit weird... definitely funky, metallic. I’m still making a funny face. I’d better get used to it. I have 5 left.

Clear amber red orange with a very thick nice frothy head. Smell is very light and has a touch of dough and ever growing rye. Flavor is a hint funky dough in there. Also there is a touch of rye in the flavor as well. Very carbonated with a bitter metallic aftertaste.

Abita makes good beer. The aroma was pleasant; the red color, clear pleasing to the eye, the flavor smooth, excites the palate from the first taste to the last swallow, best from a glass not the bottle to enjoy every drop. To bad this is a seasonal brew.

Pours reddish clear amber with big fizzy beige head. Smell is sweet ambery malt with a cereal like component to it. Taste is lightly hoppy and bitter and has a bit of a rye flavor and a dustiness about it too. Not sure if the lightly funky dustiness is intended...Bubbly carbonation. Not great, but somewhat drinkable.

Good Ole AAbita! THis is one of their better ones. Poors an amber red color. . Mild smell of caramel malts with a whiff of floral hops. Smooth medium body.

Bottle.
Pours a weak amber with a nose of watery malt. Flavor is weakened malt with a touch of nut. Watery mouthfeel. Waste of time.

Bottle releases a coppery body with about a one finger head of beige foam. Aroms are grainy, grassy and pleasant. Flavor starts of well enough and then gets a little funky as it heads for the finish line. Initial bread and malt presence is ephimeral and yields to slighty metallic hops and a bit of a watery finish. Things come back together a bit for the aftertaste, however and I think it got better as it sat for a bit. Drinkable, to say the least.
