Abita Pecan Harvest Ale

Clear amber brown, brief eggshell head. Aroma is all caramel with some earthy tones. The palate is very similar to the Abita Amber, but there is a definite nuttier flavour to it (had them side by side), not that I could honestly say it is pecan if I were in a blind taste test. A little simplistic, but enjoyable.

First Official Houston Tasting. Pours like a DIPA, dark orangish color with nice big head. Huge biscuit and bready nose, some pecan in there for sure. Flavor was very mild with malty biscuit notes and some nuts. Finish was very quick with a bitter pecan after taste. Not bad for Abita.

Bottle: Deep orange.amber color with a tan film for head. Mainly a sweet malt aroma, slightly buttery. Does have a pecan hint, but it leans more toward glazed pastries. The flavor is less sweet than the aroma suggests. It’s actually very mild. Some soft crystal malt notes and a nutty backdrop. Fairly thin and light with a late spicy malt character and a mild bitter finish. Pretty boring, and lacking Pecan character.

Nice semi-hazy amber coloured body with a thinnish tan head. Aroma of nuts, malt, light hops and some sugars as well. Light-bodied; Shallow flavour of nuts, malt and very little else come to mind when drinking this. Aftertaste shows some fake sugars, a bit of malt and pretty much nothing else - no spices nor nuts/pecans to speak of. Overall, a pretty bad offering, definitely one to pass up, regardless of what you like. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 17-November-2007.

i wish i could rate it higher as i have an affinity for breweries destroyed by hurricanes. but, this beer doesn’t taste like either an amber or like pecans. it’s very thin and kinda stinky, but it looks good. bottle from city beer san francisco

Clear medium amber, slight head fades rapidly. Aroma is faint, notes of caramel and some nuttiness. Pecans come through significantly more in the flavor, which is caramel with a solid note of nuts. Fortunately, it just comes across as nutty, as opposed to of pecans, as I don’t care for pecans. Simple and one dimensional, but not too bad. A good beer for the Abita line up.

12oz bottle-pours a foamy off white head and amber color. Aroma is medium mat-sweet caramel, nutty. Taste is light/medium malt-caramel, nutty, secondary/faint hops, some praline. A bit light body mid taste. OK carbonation. Thanks jwc215 for sharing.

Who the hell wrote that commercial description? Some pitch man from a big ad agency? That sucks. The beer wasn’t quite that bad. Smooth, nutty (as expected) flavor. Not incredibly complex but not a drain pour either.
