smells tart with a background of dusty wheat, faint spice and very faint orange notes.
there is a cooked orange flavor lurking behind notes of dusty wheat bread, nearly savory yeast and a tart finish. (the orange does amplify once this is consumed straight from the bottle).
it is medium bodied and almost refreshing. 6/3/5/4/13/3.0 dkachur (2432), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jul 6, 2009 12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Glen Allen, VA. Pours a hazy peach color with a medium head and good head retention and lacing. Went away for 20 minutes and there’s still a good finger of head. Aroma is very bready with citrus and caramel notes. Taste is bready with sweet citrus notes and a bit of spice. Medum bodied. Pleasant but not very complex. bleeng (600), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jul 5, 2009 Bottle. Pours slightly hazy, bright yellow with a decent looking but small white head. Nice almost hefe nose but I cannot pick up satsuma (what ever that’s supposed to smell like). Mostly just a wheat nose. Taste is very tangy, nice wheat taste, slightly sweet with some spicing. Fades on the end a bit thin. I don’t get any fruit/satsuma from this at all. No alcohol taste at all. It’s a decent attempt at a Belgian wit and a good, drinkable summer beer. Not bad and a bit surprising-I was expecting much less from this beer. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 4, 2009 Pours hazy yellow with a white head. Smell is wheaty and slightly floral and lemony. Nice smelling beer. Taste is citrusy, slightly tart, wheaty and smooth. Pretty refreshing and probably Abita’s best beer in my opinion. Medium body and carbonation. Nice. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 3, 2009 Appearance: Pours a lightly hazed, pale yellow body with a thin, white head.
Smell: Nose of unmalted wheat and raw, wholesome oats with solid notes of generously added spices and, of course, the Satsuma (coming across as scent of orange and lemon).
Taste: Moderately tangy wheat rounded out slightly by some smooth, crisp oats and a touch of overall sweetness. Pinch of earthy spices along with the sweetish citrus Satsuna taste. Light bitterness midway through. The wheat and the fruit carry you effortlessly to the drying, crisp finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body, though, at times, it’s flirting with being watery. Medium-high carbonation.
Drinkability: Pleasantly refreshing and goes down far too easy. It’s by no means an outstanding wit, but, in my opinion, it’s one of the better Abita beers available. blutt59 (2184), Dallas, Texas, USA
