Commercial Description:
Abita Turbodog is a dark brown ale brewed with Willamette hops and a combination of British pale, crystal and chocolate malts. This combination gives Turbodog its rich body and color and a sweet chocolate-toffee like flavor.

Pours a dark brown almost black with light brown oily head little lacing. Aromas of toasted nut, malt, toffee, chocolate. Flavors start a sweet chocolatey malt, goes into coffee and toffee, with some caramel a slight smokiness with a dry hop finish. nice aftertaste. medium body little too much carbonation but other than that a great beer more complex than expected!

Bottle (in NZ). Very easy drinking - I’m surprised it is 6.1%. The malt is pretty smooth, with a light chocolate flavour, but a touch grainy. Could drink a lot of these, without really hooked.

A very dark brown ale with off-white head. The aroma is very sweet with chocolate and toffee. The taste is also very sweet, with the malts dominating the flavor. It begins lively, but has a short finish with no aftertaste.

bottle: a good, but not especially memorable, brown ale. Pours surprisingly dark with fluffy head. Taste is chocolate and caramel with hints of nut and berries. Needs more hops in the finish, but still good.

Poured from 12 oz., dark brown with medium tan head. Nose of chocolate and malts, with just a hint of hops. Flavor was on the sweet side, seemed a bit thin, with above average carbonation. Not a bad brown.

12oz bottle. Dark brown with a lasting beige head. Light wet dog and chocolate malt in the aroma. Sweet with a light roast, some toffee, and a thin texture. Low bitterness, just enough for balance, and a touch of spicy hop flavor. Decent quaffer with a lackluster aroma.

This particular type of beer is black with a thick caramel head. Aroma is a little complex but what I come up with is sweeter malts, berries, yeast, and a little earth. Taste is a little similar. Flavors include malts, citrus, apricot, and some raisin. Aftertaste is sweet yet tart. Not too bad.

12 oz bottle from Jonathan Ron. Poured a nice deep dark brown with an average sized slightly foamy beige head. Aroma is very nutty and grainy with notes of slight honey, brown bread, stale honey and some sort of odd fruits. The body is thinner with average carbonation and watery bubbly feel overall. Flavors of cheap chocolate, grains, nutts, seltzer and slight raisin. Ah......drinkable but not a head turner by any means.

I love Turbodog. It’s a dark brown ale that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Yes, it’s very malty with only a very subtle clue of hops. The flavor is more bark than bite with caramel and chocolate notes that make it go down much easier than most beers this dark. Turbodog is a loyal and trusty companion when a smooth brown brew is what you need.
