It poured a hazy, dark amber body under a small, off-white to beige head leaving lacings. The aroma was initially buttery and toffee-ish, but after finishing the blond first, it smoothened and presented roasted malts and dried fruits. Also some hops. The flavor was sweet, slightly buttery, and with caramel, dried fruits and hints of roasted malts. Full-bodied, and with caramel sweetness and some bitterness in the finish. A quite nice beer that is too buttery, even though it smoothens after a while. As I drank the beer though, I sort of grew fond of the level of butteryness, and it drank well with the cake I had to it. Still prefer the blond though. 091008 poroukas (8), Larnaca, Cyprus does not count | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 17, 2009 Hazy dark brown colour. This beer is actually Achel Bruin 5. Cloudy dark brown with thick off-white head. Aroma is toasted malt and yeast. Flavor is toasted bread, cereal, brown sugar with a subdued hops kick. Medium-bodied. Lightly hoppy finish with sweet overtones. Very interesting flavor. Quite drinkable. Really nice brew. Borresteijn (1444), Amsterdam, Netherlands

Aroma of sulfur, rotten eggs, dung. WTF?! Flavour is light sulfur, some yeast and all bitterness. No malt backbone or any sugar left whatsoever. Dry mouthfeel, light bodied. This must have been in very bad shape, because this was Trappist unworthy. Bummer. Wim (1321), Turnhout, Belgium

It has caramel and dark fruits. Okay, but not really fantastic. sayravai (3784), Helsinki, Finland

Mild, caramely-malty aroma. Flavor of caramely malt, some dried fruit, hint of licorice and coriander spiciness. Almost medium body, soft carbonation. Very clean and quite good for the ABV, but maybe it wouldn’t be a huge commercial success. Jerre (1768), Waregem, Belgium
