BeerGestapo (725), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 7, 2009 Brewed in Belgium... Pours a murky brown color with a fantastic super foamy off white head that dissipates after a few minutes. Aroma of spices, malts, caramel, figs and yeast. Taste of malts, spices, fruit, earth and brown sugar. Mouthfeel is medium in body with a slight alcohol warmth at the finish. This is a nice brew to drink on a cold night. Lyncham (48), Ohio, USA Oct 23, 2009 Not a great balance with a belgain ale. It was smooth but not as malty, spicy, or sweet as most. This would be a good summer beer. madquacker (706), Canberra ACT, Australia Oct 21, 2009 Sweet and brown suprisingly enough. Light caramel but the sweetness dominates. A little dullish and too raiseny for me. danielyabu (269), União da Vitória, Brazil Oct 18, 2009 large frothy white brown head. good lacing. mostly diminishing. flat muddy thick dark amber body. aroma: moderate malt, milk chocolate, mild coffee, dried fruits. if: moderate sweet light bitter. ff: light sweet moderate bitter. long duration. palate: medium body, watery texture, medium carbonation and metallic finish. 100s delnoche (210), Germany Oct 17, 2009 33cl bottle poured into an Achel Trappist glass. Dark amber brown with two finger tan creamy head. Aroma is candy sugar, yeast, spice, alcohol. Flavor is pretty much the same. Finish is bitter with a bit of warming alcohol. This beer is good but it is a bit disappointing. I had the Bruin 5 yesterday at the abbey and it had a lot more character than this one. This one is more typical of other strong ales. Nice beer though, all the same. Harsebrau (164), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Oct 12, 2009 Pours cloudy and murky and brown like a swampy marsh. Massive head of light tan froth, leaving significant lacing. Aroma of plums, caramel, simple sugars and fresh cut flowers. Very smooth in the mouth. Flavors of dark fruit and a sophisticated sweetness accented by a spicy middle. CanIHave4Beers (833), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Oct 12, 2009 Pours a hazy deep brown with a medium head. The aroma is raisins and floral notes with a bit of pear in the background. The flavor is rusty and almost funky with plenty of alcohol and fruity notes with some spiciness and some metallic stuff in the background, and a large nuttiness that rounds this out perfectly. kloekus (14), Netherlands Oct 12, 2009 bottle 30 cl;
aroma releases lots of sweet esters like raisins and caramel. The appearance is bright red brown with a firm foamy head on top. The taste is quite aggresive by the carbon dioxide which lets the full body explode against the palate. Very nice malty flavors that smoothly run away in the aftertaste. Very enjoyable beer.
