Aroma of cookie dough malt is just about perfect. Taste is also dominated by cookie dough malt with some nice sweet malt and a mild yeasty finish. Alcohol was well concealed with a nice full body. franksnbeans (265), Columbus, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 29, 2007 Pours murky dark brown. Huge creamy head that doesnt go anywhere. Looks absolutely delicious. Smells of faint fig, some caramel, toffee and spice, maybe rind. Very subtle smells that are slightly dissapointing compared to its looks. Tastes sweet at first but dies quickly. Dried fruit, caramel, chocolate. Feels full in the mouth but a vibrant tingle on the tongue from the carbonation is a little too much. Overall a delicious and great beer but falls a little short for a Monk mix. Great brew but if Im going to pay the Monk premium, I might look elsewhere...or pour my second.

Fairly dry but with a nice hint of sweetness to balance it out. Subtle hints of spice; cinnamon and nutmeg. Quite good. cyrenaica (440), Milton, Ontario, Canada

I tried this beer on December 20, 2007 at "Smokeless Joe’s" in Toronto. The beer poured a dark brown into the Trappist chalice with a huge tan head that lasts throughout the beer, getting rocky as it slowly dissipates. The aroma is a mixture of yeast, malt and fruit such as plums. The mouthfeel was highly carbonated and full-bodied. The flavour was malt, with some hop bitterness. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 4, 2007 33cl bottle. Deep red with a huge cream head that leaves a porous layer of foam until the end. Aroma of dusty yeast, brown sugar, berries, green apple, and some alcohol. Very fruity and appealing. the flavor is likewise fruity and in the lighter side for the style; sweet peaches, apples, yeast and spice. Medium palate with small bubbles. Lighter and fruitier than I expected. A little odd, but tasty. Like a cross between the Achel blond and a Rochefort 8, if you can imagine it. benpickens (145), Bloomington, Indiana, USA

Incredibly biting acidity and a wonderful alcohol warming finish... the benchmark abbey dubbel JoeMcPhee (5056), Jackson Heights, New York, USA

Very rich and sweet smelling. Soft dark chocolate wrapped around dried plums, cherries and honey. Lingering fruit and figgy sweetness. Rich and very tasty brew. piscator34 (1134), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 1, 2007 Bottled sample via presario. Muddy brown in colour with strong carbonation. Aromas of red berries, raisins, and malt. More red berries in the mouth, along with some earthy hops and bramble fruit. Sorta wild and woody tasting. Where’s the malt? Medium bodied, but fairly tart. Not a favorite.
