Gregis (923), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Aug 4, 2007 Bottle from Corral Liquors in Granite City, IL. Pours a copper-brown with tons of sediment (partially my fault) and a modest, creamy, light tan head that reduces to a thin skin on the surface. Vinous and yeasty, the aroma is delicious: red grapes, cherries, milk chocolate, bubble gum, and raisins. It may sound like an odd combo, but it definitely works for me. Medium-bodied, the palate toggles between slick and malty and dry and warm like a red wine; quite interesting. A bit of alcohol on the exhale. The flavor more-or-less follows the nose with notes of raisin, chocolate, cherries, grapes and a warming alcohol at the finish. A dry raisin and red wine aftertaste lingers on the tongue with just a hint of the chocolate remaining. This is a very nice beer. Thanks for recommending it Joe!
ska (56), Italy Oct 10, 2008 33cl bottle, deep brown/red colour, huge white head, fruits (raisins), yeast and malt aroma, spices notes, sweet flavor, medium body, dry finish with alcohol and chocolate notes marcus (1053), Sacramento, California, USA Oct 10, 2008 This dark brown ale poured in an Achel goblet with a beautifuil fluffy beige head. There is a delicate, but full, roasted malt and fruit flavor with a floral finish, the product of a masterful candy sugar technique. Beats the hell out of Orval. Borup (996), Albertslund, Denmark Oct 3, 2008 Bottle. Dark bown with a big beige head. Aroma and flavour of spice, caramel, roasted malt and fruit. MaltOMeal (321), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Oct 1, 2008 bottle. Pours a clear, reddish-brown with a large off-white head. Funky, wet socks smell. Taste was of raisins, apples, caramel and spices. Mouthfeel was smooth with some dryness in the finish. Nice. cbeers21 (408), Miami, Florida, USA Sep 26, 2008 Nice heady pour great looking beer, pretty chuestnut brown. Funky sour aroma, green apples with bready vibes. Smoothed out berry and toasted malt qualities, both complex and gentle....nice. Brandyish berryfruits and dusty old library books in both smell and taste. One solid brew.
