The flavor is malty and hearty with a slightly carbonated mouthfeel. This is a very complex and well-crafted ale, teeming with wonderful flavors, such as caramel, raisins and various spices. Stacks up very well against the other trappist ales. jonnabrix (136), Newberrytown, Pennsylvania, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 19, 2006 You gotta love the Trappists. I don’t think I’ve had even had anything less than an excellent ale yet. This one is no different. Typical dark ruby brown pour that is slightly hazy. Nose was fruity/raisiny. Pretty lively creamy head that dissipates to a small sticky one. Flavor was outstanding, nice tingly alcohol aftertaste masked by sweet malt and oak fruitiness. Grovlam (3809), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 7, 2006 Thought this was quite a complex and full aroma. Colour was red-dark brown. Liquid was hazy with very little sparkling. Head was brownish. Many different notes, but defiantly hints of dry fruit like raisin, plum, fig. Also some caramel, bread yeast. Flavour has some spicy, sweetness and bitterness. Spicy and bitter finish. Stefano (1330), Esbjerg, Denmark
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Sep 17, 2006 Updated: Sep 24, 2006Slightly hazy brown under a big fluffy white head that diminishes to leave a healthy moderate head. Dark fruit, sweet candi sugar, yeast, and a touch of citrus constitute this beers pleasant aroma. The flavor is sweet and caramely up front, tings then open up a bit with some less sweet fruity flavors coming through. The finish is quite sweet. Full bodied and a real teeth coater. The alcohol comes through as a tad on the palate but is more noticeable in the pleasant post swallow numbness throughout the mouth. Overall a very nice beer, this beer could be excellent if just a tad of the sweetness was shaved off of the top. Regardless the best of the three Achel brews I have had the pleasure of drinking.

This one pours hazy deep rubyish brown colored with 1-finger off-white head. Aromas of heavy plum, figs, fruit, brown sugar, peaty malt, some vinous notes. Tastes of figgy fruit, with plum, grapes, brown sugar, earthy malt, some vanilla, and some oaky undertones. It is very complex and smooth on the tongue, with no apparent heat until the very end. You need to get ya some of this! Jwasciuk (194), Lowell, Michigan, USA

Warming alcohol body is more prominent once it warms. I really want a few more of these as it was the best beer of a really nice tasting.
