Aroma is quite spicy, with some caramel, prunes, and candi-sugar. The flavour was deliciously spicy as well, with all the aromas continuing into the flavour and balancing nicely. Some bitterness at the end seemed to be hop rather than alcohol based. The alcohol is actually very well hidden. Excellent beer.

Smell has a woody grapefruit side to it. Some tart as well. Taste has a fruity flavor that is mixed well with the wood. Different aftertaste that lightly remains in the back of the throat. wekker84 (57), etten-leur, Netherlands

Quite alive when opened... deep dark brown colour, head died right away like pouring a Sprite. Sweet roasty bit sour dark fruity aroma. Fair mouthfeel. The flavour has lots of roasty malt with dark fruits, yeast and some sourness.

Pours a cloudy brown/plum color with a small white head. Big raisin aroma, with notes of brown sugar, Belgian yeast, sherry, wood, and a touch of hops. Flavor is also led by raisins, with brown sugar, yeast, wood, sherry, sweet malts, caramel, and warming alcohol. Medium-full bodied, good level of carbonation, and smooth. Really nice beer. daknole (3000), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 26, 2009 750ml bottle, pours a mostly clear dark amber with a good sized off-white head that leaves nice sheets of lace. Aroma is nice lightly spiced yeast, candied and overripe dark fruits, and a little caramel. Flavor is a nice blend of the spicy yeast and dark fruits. There’s just enough of both to balance this out very well without turning overly sweet or spicy. Good stuff and easy drinking, but not as much complexity as some of the top Quads. Nose was yeasty with typical candied sugars. Flavor is classic Belgian. I’ve had this many times and it is definitely a favorite of mine just never got around to rating it. Great depth of fllavor. Some fruit notes and some sweetness with a great malt yeast balance. Excellant. Imperial-John (166), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
