Smells of moderate hops for this brown. The flavor got back on the malty track with caramel flavor present with a hint of citrus in the background. The palate was light and watery for which surprised me for this Brown. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 4, 2005 Aroma is subdued, but I get some mild sweetness. Dark amber (not brown) annoys me. I want my brown ale to be brown. I’m a literalist. I love the taste of this beer. Vanilla and fruit flavors riding on a tasty malt body. It’s like drinking a great shake. One of those beers that doesn’t perk you up and make you go wow, but just tastes great from start to finish and a quiet and assuming manner. walter (359), Staunton, Virginia, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 3, 2005 Bottle. Copper color, very light for a brown ale. Overwhelming sweet malts on the nose-- smells like candy. Overwhelming sweet malts on the tongue-- tastes like candy. Just not my favorite style. As it warmed, the sweet bite mellowed into the alcohol a little, but still was too focused for my taste. Didn’t get the subtle aromas I was expecting from the finishing hops. Would welcome the presence of darker malts and some bittering hops. burgerlicious (308), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 30, 2005 I tried this one because I like the generic name. However, the beer was pretty decent. Nutty aroma with a hoppy taste. JensenTaster (1587), Denmark
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 25, 2005 On bottle) Lightly hazy orange-brown in colour. Aromas of sweet hops; sugared stramberries and earth. Big carbonation, but it goes away fast and leaves and nice full flavour of toffees, caramel, cream; slighty bitter finish. Nice one. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 18, 2005 Got this one through a beer-of-the-month club. Nice ivory head and lacing throughout. Poured a medium brown into my glass. Appears slightly hazy. Semi-sweet carmel flavor, some malt and only a hint of bittering hops in the aftertaste. Very solid performance. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 1, 2005 Small head, smells like a fairly typical brown (much like a newcastle). Hoppy and nutty aromas. Hoppy attack, but smooth and a little more carbonated than I’d expected. Reddish brown color. joergen (8614), Frederiksberg, Denmark
