Commercial Description:
ACME CALIFORNIA BROWN ALE is creamy smooth after the style made famous in the north of England. It's toasty with hints of cherry and black currant. Acme Brown is brewed according to tradition with high dried and brown malt, and lightly finished with the Noble hops Tettnang and Hallertauer. The result is a very drinkable beer that can be enjoyed for an entire evening.

Pours a dark mahogany. Almost brown. Foamy off white head and small lacing. Nutty malts, small roast. Earthy hops. Flavor is a touch bitter and spicy. Toffee comes out. Bitter chocolate maybe. Thin body, with a malty finish.

Has a nutty wortish aroma, some chocolate & toffe. Dark ruby brown color good tan head. The flavor is fairly standard for a brown ale, average finish. Nothing to write home about.

Brown, clear appearance with a creamy tan head. Pleasant nutty, malty aroma. Has a nice malty body with a hoppy aftertaste. After a series of bad beers, this one was quite pleasant.

Hazy dark amber coloured body with a frothy light tan head. Aroma of nuts, malt, slight hops and some caramel. Light-bodied; Sour-vinegary flavour with a bit of nuts and hops up front. Aftertaste light and acidic, not bitter at all. Overall, a brown that doesn't show enough roasty characteristics, but not the worst beer ever! I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Beers of the World in Rochester, New York and sampled it on 12-March-2004.

Nice garnet colour with a thin tan head. No visible carbonation and no lacing. Smells like homebrew. I think it's a touch of black patent and smoked peat. Rich malt taste with a pleasant smoky aftertaste. Mild hop flavour. Good session beer.

An OK brown Ale. Clear copper pour with a thin off-white head. Some malt and oats in the flavor. Nothing too special. Pretty smooth, watered down taste. Malty too. Kind of average, nothing too great from North Coast.

Clear red-brown, big puffy head. Nose is a bit peaty, has a weird soapiness to it. Flavor is a bit oddly tart, does have a nice caramel warmth to the finish, a nice sweetness hangs on the tongue at the end. Could have a bit more depth, malts aren't quite full enough. Also is a bit thin, could use more creaminess to match with the malt character.

A pretty good brown ale. Darker and thicker than Newcastle Brown Ale (my favorite). Nice aroma and color.
