Gregis (884), Overland Park, Kansas, USA Aug 6, 2007 I thought for sure that this would be an improvement over the ACME APA. I was wrong. It pours a clear amber-orange with a pillowy, off-white head that sticks around for a while. The aroma is of funky grapefruit and pine with a faint caramel malt backing. Normally that is a good combo for an IPA, but something just smells "off" on this one. The palate is light to medium-bodied, slick and distinctively bitter and dry. The flavor is an initial hit of semi-sweet caramel malts with citric, piny and earthy/resinous hops following. This beer is quite bitter and dry at the end. I felt that it was seriously lacking balance, and the bitterness is almost harsh and dry like the flavor of a pecan shell, accompanied by plastic and cardboard notes. This is probably my least favorite IPA to date.
phishpond417 (1360), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 19, 2008 Poured a brightly coloured orange body with a fairly large white head. Aroma initially is piney, with quite a bit of citrus tones. Taste is well carbonated, lively and effervescent. Sharp hop punches in the mouth, which are strong but balanced. yngwie (3394), Kristiansand, Norway Aug 7, 2008 Bottle, at Bishops Arms, Järntorget, Gothenburg. A next to clear, orange-golden body is topped by a big, lasting, off-white head leaving lacings. Grapefruit, pinecones, fruit and malty sweetness blending nicely in the aroma. Grapefruit dominates in the mouth, but leaves room for a malty sweetness and some notes of beefstock. Full to medium body. Citrusy, mostly grapefruit, finish with some bitterness. A nice beer, but it feels ordinary in a way. (080710) Ole_R (1167), Oslo, Norway Aug 3, 2008 Bottle@Bishop’s Arms, Järntorget, Göteborg. Huge offwhite head, lasting with good lacework. Clear orangey-golden color. Aroma is light sweet malts and fresh grapefruity hops. Taste is lightly toasted malts, with a touch of caramel and some relatively mild bittering hops. Light-bodied considering the alcohol strenght. Dry, hoppy finish. FishManLA (164), Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA Jul 27, 2008 Pours a gold/copper color with a thick white head and thick lacing. Nose of grain, fruit, and floral. Taste is smooth and dry, with subtle fruity notes and the big, out-front hops typical of an American IPA. Hoppy dry finish. hellbilly (837), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Jul 22, 2008 tap at papago... pours a slightly hazy pale golden with a creamy whitish head and lots of soapy lacing. floral grassy hops aroma is full of oranges, apricots and grain. the flavor is a little weak... dry and grainy, light citrus pith, grass, very faint pine, earthy spicy hops and a dry mildly parching finish. medium body is fairly smooth and pairs quite well with just about anything you are eating...
