Commercial Description:
ACME CALIFORNIA PALE ALE is a smooth, clean ale with faint citrus and honey flavor notes and a dry finish. It is brewed with Yakima Valley hops and the finest American two-row malt, but with a measure of British specialty malt for depth. This easy drinking pale ale is a "session beer" which will be welcomed at neighborhood taverns and restaurants (and refrigerators) throughout the west.

gold-straw body with typical white head; although there is a faint yeast and egg quality, there is an element of it being clean or oddly something... and with notes of honey and lemon; not bad, a bit thick in the mouth--and not what i want from a pale ale--but a decent brew anyway.

12-oz. Definitely not a shining moment for NC, though they have so many of those that this can certainly be overlooked. Pours brilliant crystal clear burnished coppery medium amber with a thick, sudsy white head. Plenty of lace. Sourish wet straw aroma. Lightish medium body with soft carb. Straw, caramel, and a bit of honey on the mid-palate. Virtually no hop presence. More of EPA than an APA, if that helps picture it. Slightly (malt-)sugary finish.

Bottle from TJ’s in Fairfield. This brew is different from other offerings from North Coast in that it’s not as strong. Surprisingly, this one was probably the smoothest Pale Ale I’ve ever had. Of course, I’m thinking that’s not what people have come to expect from them. Anyway, some of the taste was compromised in this one, but I really liked it for the genre. Again, it was a departure from the norm.

Ok so I purchased this beer and then read the reviews. In a way, I am kind of glad I did. This beer definately wasn’t was I was expecting. Its not that clean tasting as a lot of the taste is metallic. Its got kind of a downhome rustic taste to it, something that is kind of glamorus earthy mouth feel. The only problem is this beer is 10 bucks for a 6 pack, and there are a long list of other contenders that would put this away in one shot.

pours a hazy apricot color with minimal white head. Some hoppy, earthy citus aroma and flavors. Another pale ale that smells better than it tastes. Kind of subdued with nothing really taking over. A little sudsy, almost lemon/apple soda-ish. Very drinkable, but overall forgettable.

The store that I get it at has a better label (it’s like an old-stlye pin-up girl in a red dress). I don’t like ridiculously strong tasting beers, and this is a nice, smooth tasting beer that has a delicious flavor.

Better packaging then what the photo shows. Poured thicker and headier then I expected. Mostly familiar background notes fighting to take center stage. Nothing exceptional. decent finish.

From a bottle with a much cooler label than the one pictured here (featuring a trapeze artist pin-up), the pour revealed a mid-hazed, amber beer with minimal carbonation and a low, short-lasting head. With a mIlk chocolate, jellied fruit and mild caramel aroma, the lack of hop character makes me wonder as to the classification of this as an APA. Rather flat bodied with low viscosity. Flavor finds light, tart citrics amidst a prolific DME base. Not bad, but it strikes me as a kit homebrew.
