Commercial Description:
ACME CALIFORNIA PALE ALE is a smooth, clean ale with faint citrus and honey flavor notes and a dry finish. It is brewed with Yakima Valley hops and the finest American two-row malt, but with a measure of British specialty malt for depth. This easy drinking pale ale is a "session beer" which will be welcomed at neighborhood taverns and restaurants (and refrigerators) throughout the west.

Bottle and served in standard pint glass: near amber rich golden hue with almost no head and zip for lace. The aroma has notes of sweet bready malt, hint of apricot, very light grassy hop, and some vegetable vapours. The taste pretty much follows suit with an initial malt driven sweetness supported by a zing of citric acid and some brief moments of subdued hop bitterness. The mouth feel is just there and lack any excitement. All in all this is a boring display of liquid promise. Well it is hardly bad it has nothing to make me remember it.

Bottle. So, in hindsight this is a kind of dissappointment from North Coast. I really like most of their beers and they seem to have it fairly dialed in for making interesting brews that aren’t over the top. This one, however, doesn’t live up to the billing and is just a plain Jane pale ale. Use your imagination and think about a no frills PA... this is it. It’s good, just not anything to write home about. Malt, hops, balance, etc.

Pours a fairly clear amber with a pure white head. The aroma is a moderate herbal hoppiness over a fairly dry, slightly fruity mix. This isn’t anything exciting, but it does go down pretty easy.

12 ounce bottle. Shaker glass. Cloudy yellow with a thin head. Taste was light with notes of lemon and citrus. As it warms it becomes somewhat bready in flavor. Very average.

Appearance: Pours a hazy, orangey-copper body with a full, bubbly white head. Smell: Pleasant aroma of toasted grains, caramel, biscuits, and some light citrus. Taste: Sweet, smooth caramel malts with a bit of toasted grains. Hops are fairly light and provide a bit of citrus as well as some floral notes. Ends with a softened finish that’s both lightly sweet and bitter. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Mild carbonation. Drinkability: A nice, light APA.

Meh, Sort of a typical american paler. No real hopyness, some grains and buttery hints. A few citric notes like thise lemon in a plastic lemon. uh, ghetto. Kinda palate rinser. Updated the soup I was making last night by adding the rest of this. seemed to work well in there.

On tap at the Bocktown. Looks like a ubiquitous pale yellow American lager. The aroma is nothing special but it is beery with just a hint of sweetness. A little hoppy on the first impact but this pale ale is certainly very mild. I am not a hop lover so when I get a taste of hops I cringe, however, the mildness of this brew really surprises me. I find it very acceptable! Medium carbonation. The finish is not offensive yet it does impart the qualities of hop flavors without the bitter bite. Very acceptable for an American pale ale. A style not normally appreciated by this ratebeerian’s taste buds. The best American pale ale I’ve tasted so far out of about a dozen.
