Commercial Description:
ACME CALIFORNIA PALE ALE is a smooth, clean ale with faint citrus and honey flavor notes and a dry finish. It is brewed with Yakima Valley hops and the finest American two-row malt, but with a measure of British specialty malt for depth. This easy drinking pale ale is a "session beer" which will be welcomed at neighborhood taverns and restaurants (and refrigerators) throughout the west.

The aroma has light herbal hops with yeast and caramel malt. The appearance is a copper gold with a small foamy head. The flavor is just like the aroma. The palate is thin.

From a short 12 oz. brown bottle with no freshness date. Made an average appearance, poured a clear amber hued golden with a small foamy head that quickly reduced to a thin lacing. Had a soft, sweet fruity aroma, almost candy-like, and subtle graininess. Moderate carbonation and a slick, watery light bodied mouth feel, average drinkability. Overall, was watery tasting in it’s flavors, a sweet fruity, leaning towards tropical with a mellow bitterness, a mild grainy, slightly bready maltiness and a semi-crisp sweet bitter finish.

This is a very clean and easy drinking beer. There is a small amount of burton salts lingering in the background but the taste is of very good caramel maltyness but not sweet. There are a good deal of noble hops in here, not very bitter but plenty of juicy hopness laced with a citrus bittering that is perfect compliment to the malt body. For a pale ale in between a mild and a full American Pale this is wonderful and very drinkable.

Overall, pretty mediocre PA. Great looking bottle and North Coast has some great offerings but this is not one. Drinkable but very little flavor and hops just seem a little too lemony. Won’t buy again but like their IPA a lot.

I had this at a tasting at bevmo. I wasn’t overly impressed. It’s just a mediocre american pale ale.

01.10.05 12oz bottle. Hazed orange gold with pulpish looking flakes suspended about. The head is small and fleeting. Aroma is faintly floral with lots of caramel and toffee. Plain flavor, but good enough for me, the stuff is smooth bodied, full, but with a citrusy twinge that closes the deal. Mostly dry finish.
