Commercial Description:
ACME CALIFORNIA PALE ALE is a smooth, clean ale with faint citrus and honey flavor notes and a dry finish. It is brewed with Yakima Valley hops and the finest American two-row malt, but with a measure of British specialty malt for depth. This easy drinking pale ale is a "session beer" which will be welcomed at neighborhood taverns and restaurants (and refrigerators) throughout the west.

Bottle. Pours a dark gold with minimal head and zero lacing. Nose is bread, malt and grass. Taste is caramel matt, honey and a mild citrus hop finish. Light mouth feel. Not very good.

Pours golden copper. Mild hop aroma. Flavor is malty and sweet. Low bitterness. Not particularly complex, but not offensive in any way.

Amber pour, low head, some lacing. Sweet beery aroma. Sweet, fruity, a little dusty and soapy. A good piney aftertaste, a like a sweet, light IPA. Tasty, a good effort from North Coast.

Bottle--Well, I wished I knew about the reviews ahead of drinking the beer. I was really expecting something special, but ended up being just mediocre. The color was amber with a short lasting head. Some hop aroma started the beer and the taste was of mild hops.

North Coast makes Rasputin and this? I am surprised. At this price point I would expect a better beer. Very little aroma and not much hop character for a pale ale - sort of blah.

12 oz bottle. Pours cloudy orange with 2 cm of nearly white foamy head that is mostly diminishing. Aroma of citrus and bread. Initial taste is sweet with malt and citrus, but changes to a more balanced flavor with hops and bread flavors. Light body, not particularly having an alcohol presence, moderate lacing, and some aftertaste. Overall, doesn’t compare to the other beers in this category.

Mild biscuity malts beneath orange citrus hops with some honey-like mustiness. Hazy golden body is topped by a low white head that recedes to a lasting cover. Pleasant biscuit malt flavour with moderate bitterness and peppery, spicy hop flavours. Quite dry medium body with moderate carbonation. Pretty middle of the road and certainly tame by California-style pale ale standards but still a very drinkable beer. Tulip glass. Just above fridge temperature. Bottle (Bottleworks, Aug-08).

Bottle. light to moderate malt notes of grain and cereal, moderate herb note for the hops, very light hint of sweat for the yeast, and background notes of allspice pepper and paper. Head is average sized, frothy, white with good lacing and is fully lasting. Color is slightly hazy, yet sparkling, amber. Flavor starts moderately acidic and finishes moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery almost creamy, and has a lively carbonation. It finishes lightly astringent. A fairly good Amreican Pale with one or two slightly off aspects.
