Commercial Description:
Adelardus abbey beer is the youngest descendant of our beers. This dark brown beer was made for the open house days of the abbey. Adelardus was one of the most important abbots for the abbey of Trudo and the city Sint-Truiden. He built the tower and rebuilded the existing church into one of the most monumental churches of that time. The ingredients are: brewing liqour, malt, yeast, hop, candy and ‘sweet gale’. ‘Sweet gale’ is a mixture of ten spices from the region, which gives the beer his typical flavour. The alcohol content of this abbey beer is 7 % vol.alc.

Weird taste of veggies, but that’s probably from the sweet gale. Very interesting and quite unique.

Bottle. Blackish brown beer with a strong head. The aroma is mildy spiced, and the flavour is spiced, herbal and yeasty. Overall an average Belgian beer.

The beer pours dark brown, heavily carbonated with a thin dark head. Typical dubbel aroma but definitely medicinal aromas which are evident on the first taste. This comes from the ten-spice mixture from the region, which is known as ’sweet gale’. This started as a 7-beer, but the flavour tended to dissipate over the time it took to drink it, and it was just a little synthetic - as over-carbonated dubbels can find themselves"

Bottled in Thembi in Mestreech, 6 months AFTER his date. Color is very dark brown, with quickly diminishing tan head. Aroma is malts and sweet. Flavour is malt, apple creme with a long spicey finish. I think the 6month extra aging took a toll on this one - to be rerated.

Bottled, thanks Arjen for sharing. Dark brown coloured, thick soapy head. Malty nose with some spices. Sweet malty flavour, interesting spicy notes and some fruit. Surprisingly nice.

Bottle conditioned, 330 ml. Dark brown, ruby hue with slight cream head. Dark syrupy flavours with a big tarry, liquorice, molasses body, then a grape, plum fruitiness. A touch of spice, a little indistinct with a port like finish. A beer packing a bit of punch.
