The aroma is quite fruity - reminds me of figs (almost) - with slight nutty notes. It tastes of sweet fruit, like the aroma, with a subdued bitter finish. A straightfoward and fresh beer. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 12, 2007 Cask. At The King’s Arms, Waterloo, London. My notes are a little thin here - it had been a long day, and we were dying for a curry, plus we’d been standing in the street yakking (me, my wife and Dan) over 4? 5? pints, so .... Light copper pour, average off-white cask head. Fairly sweet malt aroma, dry, dry floral hops - appealing, actually, and based on the effect, it seemed stronger than the Bombadier or the Fullers London I had at the same time. The taste came in a bit sweet, hint of ripe apple, but enough light floral/herbal soft hop bitterness to even it out - the pint went down ver-ry smoothly, thankyouverymuch. Average body, a bit chewy, nice touch of astringency, I could have wished for a slightly long linger on the palate, but overall an above-average cask ESB. leaparsons (4755), Leicester, Leicestershire, England

Aromas are sweet toffee and caramel malts with Autumn fruit. Flavours are sticky malts with ripe Autumn fruit. Sweet with some lemon. Decent. oh6gdx (9109), Vasa, Finland

| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Aug 12, 2007 Cask at the Dog and Duck. They had an unusually poor selection so we bought a round of five Broadsides. The comments were treacly and sweet, and like port. I found it too sweet and dull. No one wanted another and thankfully they put something good on. jbrus (4905), Delft, Netherlands
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 10, 2007 Cask. Very typical aroma that’s almost like urine but not really annoying with a hint of butter in the finish. Reddish brown color, beige head, good lace. Sweet, hints of dark dried fruits, light malty and light sticky. blankboy (3260), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 15, 2007 Cask at the Whitelocks Pub, Leeds. Pours a clear orange-amber with an average size lasting creamy white head and nice lacing -- it looks pretty frickin’ nice! Aroma of caramel malt, fruit and earthy hops. Flavour of caramel malt, light earthy hops, fruit and a mild bitter finish. Medium bodied. I really liked this -- thanks to some guy at the bar for the recommendation! yomintyfresh (53), USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jun 13, 2007 Not much of a scent. Thin head, not really any lacing. Truly a bitter, but the maltiness makes it more drinkable.
