Feb 22, 2008 Bottle pours a rich dark amber with a very thin head. Sweet malt aroma. Similar taste with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Overall a very nice English ale.

Feb 14, 2008 12 ounce bottle. Nearly opaque dark drown was a slight orange tinge. Nice head. Creamy beer -- softly carbonated -- with a rich flavor. Sure, there’s some malty dark fruit/raisin sweetness, but it definitely has a hop bite to it, and buttery yeast as well. As it warms, I detect some citrus. There’s really a lot going on.

Feb 3, 2008 Updated: Jun 13, 2008Bottle (500ml). Poured opaque with ruby highlights and a tanned head which was mostly lasting. Aroma was of sweet blackberries and cranberries with some dark malts and molasses (light). Flavor was a blend of toffee and coffee with dark malts, dark chocolate, a subtle fruitiness; blackberries, raisins, plums and a great lingering bitterness. Full bodied with soft carbonation, chewy texture, syrupy mouthfeel and a long finish.

Jan 30, 2008 May 2006 - Thanks to eaglefan538 for this one. Beer poured with nice looking head which vanished in the time it took me to walk to the next room and back. The aroma was buttery, fruity and a little metallic...woulda scored higher if not for metallic aroma which was unpleasant. Flavor was buttery sour, caramel and toffee...with a perfect level of bittering. Mouthfeel was sticky and carbonated just right. This was a nice beer. I like these English ales!

Jan 13, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear bownish amber color wityh almost no head. Average lacing. Malty and hoppy aroma with some caramel present. I expected it to be "stronger." But a decent beer nonetheless.

Jan 10, 2008 Bottle from Shigadeyo. Thanks butthole. Dark amber pour with a dense off white retentive head. Medium bodied, without the wateriness of the cask version. Aroma of caramel and wet malt grains. Initial flavor has a blend of toffee and caramel, with just a hint of nuts. This is countered by a soft spicy and herbal hop middle. More bitterness on the finish compared to the cask, and perhaps more tea notes as well. While this has a tad more heft, I found the cask more enjoyable as it was fresh and smoother on the finish. Pasteurization takes away some of the qualities I like in this beer. However, this bottles much better than many other British beers.
