Pours a deep deep ruby with a large foamy, lasting thick rich head. ’Rich’ is the word for it indeed. What a looker. Nice deep raisiny, malty fruity intense aroma.
Nice mouthfeel. Halfway through the pint and it a lovely and warming. Head still thick and foamy. mmmmm.
Tastes so rich and sweet malts. Ethereal (1707), London, Greater London, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 26, 2007 Bottle. Ruby red colour, slightly hazy. Leaves good lacing. Aroma of sweet malt, fruit cake and berries. Flavour is similar and the palate is rich and sweet. Quite a different drink from the cask version - it’s interesting to see the previous rater mentioning Young’s Old Nick - likewise I found this tasted like a weaker/milder version of a barley wine. I think I prefer the cask version, which is a good session drink for winter. If I’m going to go for a strong bottled ale, I’ll go for a proper barley wine or a Belgian Christmas ale. buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA

Pours a murky dark red/brown and has a small but lasting head. Aroma is rich malts, ripened fruits, ashy hints, mild licorice. Flavors of sweet candied malts and fruits, light oaky hints, molasses. Sort of reminded me of a milder Youngs Old Nick. Lightly dry and bitter in the finish. I liked this one alot. Thanks again Craig for this nice suprise.
