Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Gold. Odd aroma, quite restrained, of slightly burnt buttered toast. Taste isn’t appealing: hay and straw backed by a nasty plastic tang. Bit like natural gas. Slight bitterness. Some low alcohol lagers are a bit like this. I think Adnams should have ensured ’the UK’s first Carbon Neutral beer’ tasted good.

Cask Conditioned at The Bree Louise, London
Hazy blond color, creamy head (some nitro in the pump). Simple aroma, even smells of dirty water. The flavor is quite grassy, with light cereals, unfortunately there is this disturbing dirty water feeling. The final has a light pleasant cookie crispness, but too much bitter for this beer. Maybe not so bad, but it doesn’t please my taste.

A Mes rate: cask at the Union in Baker Street.
Nice condition with a decent white head but it’s such a bollocks pissy yellow colour that it gets a two. Slightly metallic aroma that is very dusty and old smelling. Very odd note of butane gas. Maybe this doubles up as a propellant. Faint malt and hops loitering without intent in the background. Similar flavour but a little worse. No flavour, no character, really watery, poor effort. Minimum carbon impact equates to arse, obviously.

At the Wenlock Arms - Golden color. Soft hoppy nose of apples and pears. Solid malty backbone with toffee. Mildly bitter finish with some unpleasent grainy after tastes.
