Oct 30, 2009 A nice enough light amber ale, slight mushroom & vegetal on the nose & palate, but some maltiness & a little bit of bitter hops on the finish. Some nice dark fruit flavours in the background too. Okay but there’s better beers of this style out there folks.

Clear medium red brown color with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly - fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, fresh beery - fruity, nutty and chocolate notes. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090413]

May 26, 2009 Cask, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal, Oadby. Red brown with a small head. Aromas are fruity with berries. Earthy with toffee malts. Flavours are sweet weetabix with vinous and berry notes. Dry on the finish. Pretty good.

Apr 26, 2009 The Square Peg (JDW), Brum. Deep chestnut with ivory foam. Herbal grassy nose as the bottled version, watery toffee malts, apple and faint cherry fruit. Drier hop finish than the pasteurised effort. Malted milk chalky afters. OK.

Apr 26, 2009 Cask in the new crown. Alround rating: Roasty chocolate malts, grassy bittering hop, theres a nice leafy hop character in here which takes the edge off the roastyness and the chocolate malt keeps it smooth and very tasty.

Apr 23, 2009 Cask at Pilgrims Progress, Bedford (JDW), in ’Spoons Real Ale Festival, April ’09. Dark brown with a large cream coloured head. Faint maltiness in the aroma. Attractive sweet, leathery malt taste, just not quite full enough to satisfy. Some bitterness.

Apr 22, 2009 Cask conditioned handpump Lloyds Northampton A dark amber coloured beer with a whitish head. The aroma is nutty and dry. Smoky and nutty in the mouth. A low hop count but plenty malty. Decent but unusual by today’s standards.
