Commercial Description:
Bottled; Occasional.
Originally brewed as a one off to celebrate the opening of our new brewhouse and our new distribution centre, we have decided to repeat the beer again in 2009. It came first in its class at the 2008 World beer awards and has also won a Gold medal at the 2008 BBI (British Bottlers Institute) awards. The beer was created under the direction of our Chairman, Jonathan Adnams, whose instruction was to ‘Brew something to wow me’.
The beer, our version of an American IPA, is brewed with a blend of Wheat and Pale ale malts to give a spicy, biscuity undertone to the beer, but it is in the hops where the beer really shines. A blend of hops from England, Slovenia and America (namely Boadicea, Columbus and Stryian Goldings) combine to give a wonderful grapefruit and tropical fruit aroma and bitterness that is balanced by the sweetness of the barley.

500ml bottle (Alko)
Rich amber, tiny persistent head. Sweet citrussy fruity aroma - lovely hops, but might promise too much sweetness. Smooth silky palate, carbonation moderate. Citrussy, lemon, hop restronasals. Malts a touch caramalty and sweet, bitterness quite mouth-filling - a tingle remains on the tongue for a while. Something disturbs me, but I can’t put my finger on it. It could be that it’s so un-Adnams-like that’s surprising me. Then again, they have hit rock bottom recently, so it’s better to bounce up in this direction than to stay with the tasteless other stuff they’ve made recently. Long finish has graperfruit and lemon. Darn it - Adnams have made a good beer again. Rather simple and sweet, but heck - it’s got flavour like their beers of yore - horrah!

Amber with a lasting white head. Aroma of caramel, with American-like citrus hop notes. Dry, hoppy flavour with a good bitterness.

A Mes rate: bottle at the ever brilliant Chris O’s Pre GBBF Extravaganza.
I’ve had a fair few decent bottled Adnams beers recently, this was another one. Intriguingly hoppy is a good description. They’re not in your face but you certainly know they are there. Bright and citric, good earthy malt underneath. Well balanced and not a hint of alcohol. Good stuff.

(Bottle from Adnams Cellar & Kitchen, Holt) Looks light brown with medium head. Fast bubbles. Mild hops and citrus on the noce. Strong hops bitter and citrus taste with a warming aftertaste of what I can only describe as tomatoe sauce? Nice, refreshing, but not what I expected. The tomato thing is slightly unnerving if I’m honest. Disappointed.
