Commercial Description:
Bottled; Occasional.
Originally brewed as a one off to celebrate the opening of our new brewhouse and our new distribution centre, we have decided to repeat the beer again in 2009. It came first in its class at the 2008 World beer awards and has also won a Gold medal at the 2008 BBI (British Bottlers Institute) awards. The beer was created under the direction of our Chairman, Jonathan Adnams, whose instruction was to ‘Brew something to wow me’.
The beer, our version of an American IPA, is brewed with a blend of Wheat and Pale ale malts to give a spicy, biscuity undertone to the beer, but it is in the hops where the beer really shines. A blend of hops from England, Slovenia and America (namely Boadicea, Columbus and Stryian Goldings) combine to give a wonderful grapefruit and tropical fruit aroma and bitterness that is balanced by the sweetness of the barley.

500 ml bottle sampled@RBNAG 2009, Cardinal. Golden body with a small white head. Aroma is refreshing tropic fruity with a tiny little hint of burnt plastic. Flavor is light malty with a hint of caramel, dominated by a refreshing hoppy fruit flavor. Peaches, apricot, grapefruit and black currant. Very nice and fruity, quite light malty, but becomes more deep in flavors after a while. Nice.

Sampled from bottle@Cardinal, Stavanger. A bubbely, offwhite foamy head upon a clear, pilsner-golden body. Hop accented both in aroma and flavor. Pleasant floral and citrussy hops on the nose, paired with a soft grainy, maltiness. A fine fruity bitterness with citrus and tropical in the flavor, blended with a medium sweet, quite full malt body. Finishes dry and clean with a lasting fruity bitterness. Very good.

500 ml bottle. Slightly hazy golden orange colour, medium-sized white head. Sweetish, pleasant aroma of citrus fruits and caramel malts. The flavour is caramel-malty, with grapefruit, lemon and a rather dry hoppy finish with a hint of alcohol warmth. Very nice.

50cl bottle at Mallaskukko, Turku. Slightly hazy amber, mostly disappearing tiny pale head. Loads of sweet toffee, grapefruit and spiciness on the nose, bready malts, hints of bacon later on, solid Americano feel actually. Flavor has sweetish toasty and caramelly malts, piney and spicy hops, little citric fruits, mildly resiny bitterness. Medium bodied, low carbonation. Enjoyable, like that hop profile and caramel combo.

500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.7%. Hops are Boadicea, Styrian Goldings and Columbus. Deep golden colour, moderate white head. Pleasant hoppy aroma, also notes of fruits, hints of honey, toffee and blackcurrant leaves. The well rounded flavour has a nice balance between distinct malts and pleasant hops, some fruity sweetness, honeyish notes, the alcohol is noticeable but not disturbing. Moderately bitter aftertaste. Good beer.
