Black with ruby hint and tan head. Lovely thick stout, dry and powdery with a chocolate roasted malt. Nutty at the finish with a silky smoothness. Very good beer, however; this used to be 4.6 ABV and somehow I remember it being a little better. chriso (4821), London, Greater London, England
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 27, 2009 Cask (handpump) at the Bridge House, Tower Bridge, February 2007. Black with a reddish tinge. No head, just a thin collar of beige foam. Chocolate and modest roast malt aroma. Dry on the palate with a roasted, burnt malt feel. Less chocolate. Slight salty edge. Clean, light mouthfeel. Perfectly OK but lacks a little impact - overall impression is dry, roasted and light.

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 23, 2004 Cask. Light toasted nose - would have liked much more there given the dark dark brown color. Low tight head. Fairly substantial body with nuttiness and maybe a touch of butter. Dry coffee end. Waxy mouthfeel and a medium body.
