Commercial Description:
Cask; Seasonal - December. No longer available in bottle.
The original winter warmer, Tally-Ho is actually a barley wine brewed to a nineteenth century recipe. It’s sweet; it’s heart-warming; it’s rich - but watch out, it’s got a kick like a drayman’s horse!

Cask at the White Horse, Parson’s Green. Lovely ruby beer, dried fruit like prunes or raisins. Sweet, warming alcohol. Quite nice, but some bitterness would not have hurt.

Cask at The Wenlock, october 07, 05 vintage. Turbid, opaque, brown color and a small beige rim. Caramel, crystal malts aroma. Woody, complex, flavor with some alcohol burn and a sweet flavor. Heavy. Medium to heavy palate, persistante woody flavor. Nice, complex but a bit clumsy strong old ale.

A dark brown coloured beer with reddish tints in the light, but no head. A distinct toasted malt nose with burnt sugar, liquorice, treacle and a touch of smoke. The taste is bitter sweet, toasted malt, winey, sherry-like, plus liquorice. woody and a touch grassy. The finish is bitter sweet but smooth. (Cask - Easter Beer Festival @ The Fox & Hounds, Heacham, Norfolk).

Cask handpull at White Horse, Parson’s Green. Very deep ruby, with lasting beige head. Adnams yeasty aroma. Some dark malts, but the dark fruits are the stand out things here. Nice tingly hop finish. Not bad toffee too. The pump clip kept being turned around and then it was back on again.

Cask Nearly no head; near black beer with ruby highlights. Is it possible to make a near-noseless beer? Well, A_B would, but - Adnams? Some (dark) greenery, searching hard. Sweet, liquorice, slightly roasted. Syrupy dark malts and caramel, with a slight spicey touch as juniper berry. Very slick, full-bodied and oily, going more flavours retronasal than nose + first taste combined. I still have to understand the Adnams’ fan club. I think most of their beers are fairly... standard.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Very dark amber-brown. Sweet malt aroma with some fruit, possibly blackcurrant. Sweet, almost cloying honeyed taste with golden syrup and the thick spoonfuls of medicinal malt I was made to eat as a child. Very slight bitterness plus a lot of alcohol. A decent warming winter potion, but I wouldn’t want a session on this. Especially as it cost me over three quid for a pint.
