Commercial Description:
Cask; Seasonal - December. No longer available in bottle.
The original winter warmer, Tally-Ho is actually a barley wine brewed to a nineteenth century recipe. It’s sweet; it’s heart-warming; it’s rich - but watch out, it’s got a kick like a drayman’s horse!

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Very dark amber-brown. Sweet malt aroma with some fruit, possibly blackcurrant. Sweet, almost cloying honeyed taste with golden syrup and the thick spoonfuls of medicinal malt I was made to eat as a child. Very slight bitterness plus a lot of alcohol. A decent warming winter potion, but I wouldn’t want a session on this. Especially as it cost me over three quid for a pint.

A Mes rate. Gravicask 2008 version from the Bree Louise. Adnams seem to be doing a lot right these days and this latest version of Tally Ho is really the cream of the crop. Very dark mahogany, no head. Fantastic colour though. Full on rich barley wine. Tonnes of burnt sugar, roasted barley, incredible creme brûlée character all round and a beautiful lick of warming alcohol. Really drinkable considering the strength and luscious busomy body. Massively good beer.

Cask : The Seven Stars, Holborn. Deep, rich colour with a thick malty body to go with it, it tastes just how it looks.

(Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm) Dark ruby red/ brown. Starts very sweet and fruity, lots of wild berries (blackberries, blueberries), a touch of marzipan. Underneath the sweetness and fruit there is a distinct hoppiness emerging. Very warming and tasty.

Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen.
Dark brownred with a frothy light tan head. Sweet aroma of malt with a tone of grass and spices. Malty and peppery flavor with a hint of liquorice. Full and pretty tasty and soft in the mouth.
