Commercial Description:
Cask; Seasonal - December. No longer available in bottle.
The original winter warmer, Tally-Ho is actually a barley wine brewed to a nineteenth century recipe. It’s sweet; it’s heart-warming; it’s rich - but watch out, it’s got a kick like a drayman’s horse!

Cask @ Buckeye: Wow, dark color. I thought I had my order screwed up till I took a whiff. Soft, lightly sweet aroma of crystal malt and flowery hops. Flavors basically followed the aroma: Pleasantly malty sweet with a touch of flowery hops balancing everything out. Very mild compared to what I expect when I see a beer advertized as "barleywine". But that being said, it was quite pleasing and very drinkable.

Huh, so this is a barleywine. On cask at the Gaslight. Dark brown porterish look, small head, fine bubbles. Smell toffee, molasses, some sort of roastiness and floral hops. Mouthfeel slightly chaky, medium-full. Taste mild coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, and a slightly crisp hoppy finish. Kinda wierd.

A very decent english barleywine that pours a deep amber/brown with an of-white head. Aromas of spice, and flavors of old hops, honey and a light bitterness.

This is worth going out into the cold. Winter’s are made for such beers. Warming. Sweet, but also roasty and dark. The interest is in that ending swallow.

Cask conditioned @ South Western Arms, Soton. Alcohol nuts and fruit on the nose. On drinking stale cardboard flavours apparent.

Cask @ Moan & Dove, Amherst, MA: Deep ruby brown, chestnut beige head. Fruity grain malt nose. Rather sweet, chewy caramel malts, big toffee, plum, raison, treacle. Finish with a firm hop bitterness. A bit clashy are the malts and hops sometime, but still a very drinkable and enjoyable offering.

This is a full bodied x-mas pudding in liquid form. Very filling and full of a diversity of tastes. Something to sip on, on a cold windy winter day. I’m not sure I agree on the barley wine lable though. To weak for that, in my oppinion. It has a long lingering after taste of licorice, black chocolate, prunes and roasted nuts.
