I have always loved the way English ales look. They just look like my idealized image of ale. This tea colored specimen was a classic example. Very creamy fluffy head that settled down, but didn’t leave all together. Sweet malty foretaste with a dry and very mildly astringent (not bitter as it had almost no hop profile) aftertaste.

Bottle: Aroma is somewhat similar to the Broadside Strong. Has that raspberry aroma with some caramel and light nuttiness. Pours a dark transparent amber with a small white head that quickly fades to a ring. Caramel and a Kool-Aidish raspbery flavor with a flowery and lightly nutty finish.

(Canned) Slightly hazy dark amber color with a medium, tight head. Nutty-hoppy, very toffee-malty aroma. Toffee-malty, strongly berryish flavor with a dryish-ashy, bitter finish. Medium-bodied, slicky palate with slightly high carbonation. Not quite as good as from a bottle, but still pretty enjoyable for the style and ABV. (Bottled, was 8-3-7-4-14=3.6) Slightly hazy amber color with a smallish, lacy head. Very fruity, aromatic-hoppy, toffeeish aroma. Aromatic-hoppy, slightly oaky and wineous flavor with sweetish maltiness and a bitter, dry but sticky finish. Medium-bodied, sticky and smoothly carbonated palate. A very nice and tasty bitter for the ABV.

This is the type of beer that one should drink at English pubs with your friends. Malt and hops is a little better than average, some noticeable hints of spices

(Bottle 50 cl) Hazy amber, limited slightly creamy head. Somewhat fruity but not really much aroma. A touch of hops and nothing else really. Extreme pressure in the bottle. 030205

Pours a clear orangey copper with a frothy half inch of head. Very little lacing here. Smells fruity and light bitter hops. Spicy, like nutmeg or cinnamon. Some grassy malt in the nose too. Nice fruity malt up front. A slight pause in the flavor and then the bitter hops kick in for the finish. Grassy and dry. Do I taste Ringwood yeast or is that my imagination? Not alot imparted to the beer from the hops except the biting bitterness. Lightly metallic in the finish. Crisp and dry. Lingering hoppiness in the aftertaste. A very solid special bitter but not enough to knock my socks off. A good change of pace though.
