Gorgeous copper color, thick beige head. Smooth flavor, nice caramel-maltiness, fruitiness and hops are present but restrained, a bit watery, lingering hop bitterness in the finish. Medium body, very easy drinking. I usually find English beers don’t fare well on the journey to the USA, but this beer did quite well. One of the better ESBs I’ve had - great balance for a solid session brew. legion242 (1588), Richardson, Texas, USA

An altogether satisfying session beer. More body then is usual for the style. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 7, 2005 Didn’t get much aroma, but the taste was delectable: flowery and springlike with a hint of citrus and a sharp bitterness to follow. My late grandfather loved his Adnams. He used to live at Southwold, just under the lighthouse (see the label on the bottle). TheGrandMaster (1877), Auckland, New Zealand
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 4, 2005 Poured from the bottle. A beautiful clear brown with a nice frothy head. Aroma is a little disappointing, with only a sweet maltiness coming through. The flavour is both a hearty maltiness and hoppiness. A bit carbonated, but offset by a good bitterness that clings to the tongue. DrGonzo (625), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 3, 2005 Deep amber brown color, thin white head and lacing. Aroma reeks of wet cardboard, hops, dark bread. Mostly thin body, some spiciness, hints of apple, toffee as well. Drinkable but relatively indistinguishable. AlphaOne (142), Australia
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Mar 14, 2005 Deep red/brown good head and lacing. Rich sweet biscuity malt, saltanas and a trace of smokeyness. Flavour is fruity with a little banana and grapes present, barky hoppiness, with a good drying bitterness, and a slightly roasted character. Light body. Dogbrick (2907), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 10, 2005 Pours a dark amber color with a medium thin beige head. Thin rings of lacing. Mild aroma of malt and caramel. Medium-bodied and really not very bitter for a Bitter. Fuggles hops, citrus and malt flavors are nicely balanced, leading to an understated character. The finish is lightly bitter, fruity and clean. Not really extraordinary, but I had no problems drinking it at all.
