Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Name changed in early 2006 from "Adnams Bitter". Known before 2000 as "Adnams Southwold Bitter".
Was sold as "George Ale" for the George Inn in Southwark until 2007.
A classic cask bitter: the choice of a growing number of discerning licensees. Fragrant aromas of finest English hops and malt. Dry but refreshing, with a distinctive lingering bitterness. Appetising and delicious. Adnams bitter is a category champion.

Cask at The Tin Goose, London Heathrow Airport. A hazy amber pint with a white head that lasted to the end leaving heavy lacing; a sweet malty aroma; an amazing bitter marmalade taste; but the aftertaste is less exciting, thin and dry.

Underrated because it’s so difficult to find on form. The classic Adnams in theme pubs is slightly sour with an offputting stale yeasty smell which nevertheless drinks OK. But try it where it’s appreciated and it is transformed into a nutty, tangy bitter with a distinctive aroma of woodsmoke.. If you don’t catch the aroma of woodsmoke you’re not tasting it at its best. Try it straight out of the cask at The Queen’s Head in Newton, near Cambridge or go to the source in beautiful Southwold.

Kings Head, Upper St, London N1. Not quite clear in the glass, small head, good lacing. Good strong hops, little bit of spice and citrus. Very long dry hop after taste. I like this beer, its very dry and holds the flavour well.

Cask at the Boat Inn, Stoke Breune, Northants. Poured an amber colour, small white head, hops and malts dominate the aroma although it wasn’t too powerful a nose. Tase was quite refreshing and bitter good hops and malts, still not as good as the Frog Island best bitter which I returned to after this. Cask at The Crown Charlton-On-Otmoor 14-10-07 Very decent session beer, not overy complex but good bitterness and pleasant enough.

Cask at marble arch, London. Pours a clear slightly dark copper with a creamy white cap. The aroma is a little metallic with some oak and floral notes. Thinnish, slightly sweet caramel feel to it, with a strong bitterness and some decent floral hops. The finish is soft and clean

Hazy brown with little thin film head. Toffee and hops in the aroma. Quite bitter.
