Commercial Description:
The Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer is an unfiltered smokebeer, brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the reddish brown lentbeer a natural cloudiness. Its smokey aroma is already noticeable in the smell, combined with a fine hoppy note. In the drink the fullbodied, highly drinkable lentbeer shows its strong malty flavour, rounded up with the smokey taste and a light bitterness. Due to the nourishing yeast, the Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer has the "Brotzeit already included" (German word for afternoon snack). Served / Sold: - Only during lent from Ash Wednesday to Easter - Only from the wooden keg at the Schlenkerla Data: Original Gravity: 14.5% Alcohol: 5.5% EBU: 32

Enjoyed a pint at Ginger Man. Pours a nice deep rusty orange topped by a consistent creamy tan head. The aroma is rich malts, open fire, and of course smoked sausage. The flavor is not quite as smokey as the other Schlenkerla offerings, but it’s presence is perfect. A nice malty body which gives it a toasted potato bread chewyness. There’s also that classic smokey bacon flavor, yet it’s surprisingly clean and crisp. Between the less pronounced smokeyness, and the surprising crisp hop dryness in the finish, this is the most quaffable of the Schlenkerla offerings, and is an outstanding smoked beer!

Tap at Ginger Man. First whiff of the aroma is just as rich and smoky as I was hoping it’d be, though still not as much so as their Marzen or Urbock. Mouthfeel is perfect going down, a balanced level of carbonation to cover the bacon and ham smoke flavor that just glides across the tongue. Awesome stuff, I could drink this every day.

On tap at Rich O’s. clear dark brown with a nice lasting white head. good lacing. nice smoked bacon aroma with light pilsner malt and hop notes. slightly sweet pilsner malt flavor with a light hop bitterness and nice strong smokey bacon undertones. bitter pilsner hop finish with nice malt notes and light smoked bacon notes. very nice beer. the smoke is strong......it definitely makes its presence known... it still tastes and smells of bacon but it doesnt have the normal feel of drinking liquid bacon that the other beers that i have had from this brewery. very well done. if you are introducing someone to the world of smoked beers i would recommend this.

On tap at the Maproom! Helluva find! Poured a lovely garnet-tinted brown with a medium cap of creamy beige head.. thorough lacing followed it down. Caramelly-smoked malts first grace the nose... soft and alluring with a campfire-like draw to it.. English toffee follows. Absolutely decadent in the flavor department... sweet caramel, toffee, and nutty base with toasted embers, dried earth, and wonderfully-integrated smoked malts eminating outward... perfect balance and sweet, smoky, and satisfying finish. Medium-bodied with a sweet, smooth middle and mild earthy bitterness.. loved the smoked malts.. somewhat sticky caramel finish. Fantastic brew!

Pours light brown with a tan head. Smells smoky and caramelly. Tastes sweet and smoky with a nice dry finish. Draught sample at the Gingerman Norwalk.

On draught at Max’s: Pour to a clear amber body with a medium white head, lasting, which leaves some nice lacing around the glass. The aroma is sweet caramel, tons of smoke, smoked meat, mild jerky, toffee, campfire. The taste is smoked caramel, smoked light meats (though nowhere near as meaty as some of their other beers), light grass, grains, along with some hints of nuts, and chewy malts. This to me shows the most hops of all the Aecht Schlenkerlas I’ve tried, as well as being the most complex in malt flavors and balance. The smoke flavors are certainly here, but they’re more delicate. Very nice.

Poured an amber color with a small, creamy, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, nuts, lots of smoked malts, and some toffee as well. Taste was also very smokey, nuts, caramel malts, with some dry, citrus, hop bitterness in the finish. Awesome smoked.

Draft, Max’s on Broadway. Amber body with a white head that fades to a lasting cover. The aroma is campfire, mosquite, beef jerkey. The flavor is much lighter than the nose, smokey, mosquite, very dry. The mouthfeel is light and thin.
