Commercial Description:
The Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer is an unfiltered smokebeer, brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the reddish brown lentbeer a natural cloudiness. Its smokey aroma is already noticeable in the smell, combined with a fine hoppy note. In the drink the fullbodied, highly drinkable lentbeer shows its strong malty flavour, rounded up with the smokey taste and a light bitterness. Due to the nourishing yeast, the Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer has the "Brotzeit already included" (German word for afternoon snack). Served / Sold: - Only during lent from Ash Wednesday to Easter - Only from the wooden keg at the Schlenkerla Data: Original Gravity: 14.5% Alcohol: 5.5% EBU: 32

Tap at Bar on Buena. Murky brown with medium creamy tan head. Aroma is slight smoke with typical baconess but sweeter malt character coming out. Flavor is slight smoke, not as thick as some of their other beers, well balanced with the caramel malt and nice, very good. Medium, creamy body. Very well balanced and fresh, one of their best.

Draught. Good smoky aroma, campfire and salami. Clear amber brown colour. Big stable creamy tan head. The flavour is nice and smoky, more or less like the aroma, but with a good nice maltiness on top. Flavourful and mellow.

Draught at Ølbaren, Cph. Clear deep amber colour with a nice off white creamy head. Very pleasant smoky aroma with toasty malt. Pleasant mouthfeel. The flavour has a good smokiness with deep malts, caramel and a pleasant bitterness. Smoky dry pleasantly bitter finish.

Tap at Deep Ellum. Outstanding smoked. Strong smokey odor that hit my nose when is was just put on the table. Smoked wood flavor quickly dissipates in mouth to smooth malts. Delicious beer.

Tap at Deep Ellum. Aroma of strong wood smoke and lots of semisweet, bready malt. Flavor again has smoke mostly in the wood department, maybe a touch of meat in there, but continues to be very well buoyed by the huge bready malt. Full-bodied, particularly for a smoked. Maybe not too complex, but simply gorgeous.

Draft at Ginger Man. Pours unclear brown with a beige head. The aroma is both sweet and smoky, with burnt wood, burlap, and toasted grain. The flavor is well balanced with and not at all overpowering in it’s smokiness. Burnt wood, burlap, smoke, toasted grain, and lighter notes of caramel malts with a very light and dry bitterness that peeks through in the end. Outrageously easy to drink.

On tap at Ølbaren. Ruby coloured with a medium dense off white head. Aroma is mildly smoked, like fresh homemade butcher sausages and smoked bacon. Lovely. Flavour is lots of smoke, with week notes of tar and sweet malt. It has a long smoky aftertaste.

Draught at Ølbaren, Copenhagen
Dark amber color; big creamy head. Intense smoky aroma, persistent, with impressions of sausages and fireplace in waves, even a light sourness typical of smoked sausages; creamy; wonderful. It has a medium-lean body, with good creamy caramel flavor, but less sweet than I like, and with a dark chocolate touch; of course, with a good smoke presence. The final is just a bit harsh (the roasted malt, roasted nuts), very bitter (maybe too much), and not sweet enough. Overall, an excellent beer, but I appreciate less roasted ones.
