Niko100 (99), New York, USA Nov 18, 2009 Hazy amber color; Medium body; Aroma of smoky malt & subtle spice; Flavor primarily of sweet malt & light hops - with a somewhat smoky finish; Quite different lager - this is a very good brew. lithy (1650), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Nov 17, 2009 Golden yellow with a loose white foam, thick sheets of lacing. Grainy huskyness typical of a helles mixes with a mild ashy smoke aroma. Taste is grassy, herbal, grainy, tannic, then a light wash of burnt wood, campfire ash, smoke. altonbrownd (1888), Amsterdam, Netherlands Nov 14, 2009 On tap at Wildeman. Golden body with tall head. Looks like a pils until you take in the hammy nose. Taste of smoke, and ham. Watery. Also nice malt flavours. Enjoyable. BelgiskOlklub (401), Viby J, Denmark Nov 14, 2009 Average sized frothy white diminishing head. Clear light yellow body. Average malt aroma of grain and cereal. And lots of smoke! Medium body, thin texture, soft carbonation and bitter finish. Moderate sweet and light bitter flavor. watson1977 (265), , Pennsylvania, USA Nov 8, 2009 pours a very clear golden color with a medium white head...retention could be better. aroma is very faint and has slight smoke, a touch of hay...malty but not sweet. flavor is malty...pils malt...up front with a subtle spicy hoppiness and nice smoke in the back end. mouthfeel is light and lively with a crisp finish of smoke and spicy hops. refreshing with a perfect amount of smoke. yemenmocha (354), Glendale, Arizona, USA Oct 17, 2009 Interesting find on tap at The Other Side Cafe in Boston. Pours pale golden with off-white head. Aroma has some fruit and a perfumy quality, along with smoke. On the palate the perfume quality is present and the beer is overall very crisp and refreshing. Good accompaniment to the pub fare. Allen (1327), Switzerland Oct 12, 2009 Bottled 50cl. Courtesy of joss. Clear pale yellow with a nice beautifully lacing white head. The smoke component is very subtle in both nose and aroma which is surprisingly hoppy. Great malt and great hop profile. Decent bitterness. Accompanies extemely well indian cooking. A mindblowingly good Helles. Thanks a million joss! geofbaum (14), Delaware, USA Oct 10, 2009 Poured medium gold with a nice white head from a bottle. Initial smell includes the definite smokiness and peatiness of their real smokebeer. Almost to much for me, and I split the bottle in half with a friend. Flavor has initial lager taste followed by a strong bitter, smokey, peaty, and generally earthy taste and texture. I’m debating on whether this bottle was older then it should be or if it’s just my own palate that isn’t used to this flavor. Overall it wasn’t horrible but out of a recent random selection of beers that I got this has been my least favorite by far.
