Deep amber and copper coloured body with a dense tan head - very nice looking. Aroma of potent smoked peat, smoked salmon, roasted malt, toffee and more smoked wood - crazy. Medium-bodied; Nice malty flavour with some toffee and nuts thrown into the largely smoked flavour that really stands out near the end. Aftertaste shows some complexity with a bit of oak and vanilla along for the ride with the smoked flavours. Overall, a nice and very potent flavoured beer - really true to the style, and practically a definition of the style. I sampled this 500 mL bottle purchased from German Gourmet in Arlington, Virginia a few days ago, sampled on 01-May-2009 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Bottle; poured a dark, cola brown with a small off white head. Aroma of smoked malt, leather, meat, and bean and bacon soup. Definitely an acquired taste; would have never liked this a year ago. For the amount of smoky flavor, it is pretty easy drinking. Some sweetness and meat, but not the most complex version of the style

From the 1 pt. 09 fl. oz. bottle with no noticeable brew/expiration date or lot number. It pours a rich but slightly cloudy brown with a tremendous two finger tan head. It remains puffy and foamy nearly to te end. The aroma is an amazing scent of smoked cheddar cheese and nothing quite like anything I have had before. Decent to bold mouthfeel. The taste is just as smoky as the aroma and incredibly unique. Malts and hops are hard to find but the smoky taste is satisfying. What a fabulous Weizen!

bottle. The aroma for this beer is interesting, nice round smell of smoke(barbecue). However the taste is awfull like seeping a club soda trough a burned bread.

Bottle pours a beige head that sticks just a little and a clear brown body with copper and amber highlights. Smells of bacon, roasted malt, and dark sugar. Flavor is bacon, charcoal, smoke, and caramelized malt. Finish is smoke and caramel.

Bottle from Allen. Dark brown with a big smokey aroma. Smoke leather and a vaguely beef jerky taste.

Tarry and smoky, softer but less intense than the urbock. Good stuff, one of the things that alko gets right by not letting it go after all these years.

On tap at redlight. Brownish red body. I was not at all surprised when I tasted this and meat came to mind. Nice smokey but not overpowering. Easily my favorite german brewery.
