BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Feb 19, 2009 Bottle. Poured a soda brown with a fizzy tan head. Man, this reminded me of smoked ham in the aroma and flavor so much that that is all I could get out of it. I imagine it would be great for cooking or marinating. Light body and of course smoke aftertaste. No mistaking this one as a smoked. Gabler (86), , New York, USA Feb 15, 2009 Poured black with a deep brown head. Great smokey aroma. Body was definitely full. I found the smoke to come on immediately but mellowed out tremendously as it washed down. Easier than the Urbock but not as intense. Smooth finish, great beer. I love this brewer. Itzjerm (69), Harvest, Alabama, USA Feb 14, 2009 I had this on tap. What can I say, it is definitely smokey. I didn’t know what I was ordering, So I kept thinking I was drinking bacon. Dark malty with a smoky tone. En krävande öl vars mogna kvaliteter tar ett tag att uppskatta. laguerita (111), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 4, 2009 Um. this is definitely one of the better smoked beers that I’ve had, not that I’ve had many...the smokiness is well-balanced and not over powering. a touch sweet. nice overall Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Feb 2, 2009 Bottle. Pours black that turns deep mahogany when held to the light. Moderate tan head leaves spotty lacing. The nose is smoked ham, light bacon and campfire. Taste is smoky charred wood, burnt sweet malt, smoked meat and light roasted coffee in the finish. Medium creamy mouth feel. Very good. NobleSquirrel (1094), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 1, 2009 5L mini-keg from Sam’s. I think I can make an educated rate on this, having had about 4 glasses or so. Pours a reasonably clear chestnut with frothy offwhite head. I don’t think this is actually filtered, just well lagered. Nose is distinctly Bamberg, with a nice sweet smoke and woodiness coming through. More subdued than the the Urbock. The underlying beer isn’t particularly impressive, though it is a nice vehicle for the smoke. Unfortunately, there are some muted band-aid notes that come through, but quickly replaced by smoked ham and a peppered sweetness. Still, Schlenkerla will kill your palate. Decent. terrybail (329), London, Ontario, Canada Feb 1, 2009 500ml bottle from the LCBO
Pours a dark coppery brown with a good sized tan head
The aroma of course is like smoked sausage
The taste is the same smoky sausage
This is the second time I have tried this and I just do not like it at all
I could not even finish the bottle
