madquacker (706), Canberra ACT, Australia Dec 12, 2008 Sorry but I find this a putrid tasting bacon rind soured nasty piece of work. Points for being different but just do not get how this rates as good. Would not want to have a session of it. Reddish hue and sweet raw bacon. Firemoose15 (540), Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 11, 2008 Bottle. Aroma..mmm smoky. Poured a dark amber. Flavor of smoked meat, which ya cant beat, liquid meat. Palate was nicely enjoyable and smooth. Overall, cant beat smoked beer. CanIHave4Beers (835), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Dec 9, 2008 This stuff is pretty tasty, I find the fresher it is the tastier it is. I had a bottle recently that was old, it showed some signs of oxidation and the smoke was very muted. Generally speaking however this stuff moves fast enough that you will usually get a good bottle, at least this is the case in my experience.
The smoke on the aroma here is very nice, it smells a little bit like smoked meat, with some autumnal leaf aromas along with some malty sweetness. The beer looks very nice, it has a good auburn color with a nice white head. The flavor follows the aroma very well with plenty of smoke, sometimes a bit too much smoke which causes a slight lack of balance with the lighter sweet malts, there is a overall dryness that makes this a very appealing brew.
waolsen (1220), Littleton, Colorado, USA Dec 2, 2008 Maple pour with thin head. Great smoke, meat, charred wood aroma. Taste much the same. Very nice smoke beer. JCastner (102), New York, USA Nov 28, 2008 A beautiful dark amber with an off white head. Legendary aroma of sweet malt, smoked meat, and a bit of fruit. Medium body. Taste is of smoked malt (you can actually taste the beechwood!) with a little residual sweetness (surprisingly complex). I’m a smoked food kind of a guy and this is one of my all time favorites. Brompa (1), , New Hampshire, USA does not count Nov 21, 2008 Poured from bottle really dark with only a slight head. WOW!!! Smoke! I grabbed this one by accident but I’m glad I did. I agree with others that this is not a session beer but the more I drank the more I wanted. Overall a real smooth Rauchbier. I would definitely buy this one again. DandyWolfFloyd (331), Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 20, 2008 Supersmoke! Aroma full of smoked beechwood, ok that’s the safe answer, really it’s liquid smoke. Like a smokehouse, like a smoked ham, like beef jerky, for real. It’s color is a dark brown, with no head at all. Flavor is full absolutely with smoked ham being the most prominent, but is that the best. It’s a 9 for me, because although its crazy it’s a one and done specialty. Palate is smooth considering, but your not pounding this. A great one and done. fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Nov 1, 2008 Bottle. Aroma crazy with singed earth, smoldering firewood, smoked meats. Flavor smoky with sweet malt, some nuttiness. Very nice.
