Tastes of smoke and charred wood, with a cola finish. Much better than the weizen rauchbier. billdrinksbeer (18), Washington DC, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Oct 28, 2009 Draft at Churchkey. Pours a very dark brown. No head, minimal lacing. Oily surface. Smell is pure smoke. Smells like charcoal plus good pork bbq. Front is puuure smoked bacon. Back doesn’t taste much different than the front. Very nice mouthfeel, not thick, but substantial. Overall really good if you can get it and love pork. rakkasan (69), Bresso, Italy
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 23, 2009 bottle- a beer that reminded me immediately of Scout Camp....lovely campire mornings. Dark brown tea color, 1/2 finger head, the aroma was of smokehouse and charred leather with a sweet hickory smoke texture that wasn’t as bitter or acrid as I’d expected. My first rauchbier but I think it may grow on me.... Jblauvs (542), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 22, 2009 Dark Brown pour, Aroma is smokey but not acrid or unpleasant like some. Malt and brown sugar also comes through. Flavor is caramel malt, some wood, smoke, peat. Nicely balanced, not a favorite style of mine but this is really nice. The most drinkable one Ive come across that still manages to impart that nice peaty smokiness. mcdav2154 (297), Germany
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 22, 2009 Tasted this one at the Bottle Shop in Idar-Oberstein. Nice clear amber color with a cream head. Medium carbonation. Smell and taste were HUGE on smoke which took over the beer but not offensively. Also got notes of malt and brown sugar but the smoke was all you can think of. For this style of beer this is exactly what you’d want. Would I drink more than half this beer in one sitting? No. But it’s true to style therefore I had to rate it high. Niko100 (102), New York, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 18, 2009 0.5 L bottle. Relatively transparent despite its very dark coppery colour. Thick light beige head reminiscent of shaving foam (a compliment). Strong smoked peat scent with a dash of hops behind. Complex taste with a strong malty basis, the smoked note and nice fruitiness. Uncompromising smokey/spicy aftertaste. Velvety body.
