The flavor is unmistakeably charred wood with a substantial malt base. In spite of the smoke, this is actually an enjoyable drink, but not for mass consumption. tlind2 (560), Helsinki, Finland

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 20, 2008 Poured pitch black with a beige head. Aroma - hickory smoke and malt. The smoke clearly dominates this one. The nose is like when you come inside after standing around a campfire for a few hours. It’s way over the top. There is some dryness and bitterness and maybe even some roast malt hiding behind the smoke. Very unique, but not to my taste. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 18, 2008 1/2 L bottle from Once Upon a Vine....but definately not my first. Pours a clear dark amber with almost no head. Aroma is straight from the smokehouse along with carmelized malts and some spicey hop aromas buried deep in the smoke. Carmelized malt flavors yeild to smokiness and the hop bitterness fights to catch up from behind. Finish is somewhat dry with a bit of residual hop bitterness and smoke flavors. Wonderful.
