Aroma and taste both very smokey...smells and taste could be described as a camp fire or smoked meats. Goes great with smoked gouda and cheddar. I suspect it would pair well with any smoked cheese or meat. Very good smoked beer. wxman (585), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 28, 2008 Pours a deep reddish-brown with a substantial off-white head that lingers. Aroma is hickory smoke and hop flowers. Smokey taste of buttery caramel sweetness, cheddar cheese, and hop bittereness. Smooth and delicious. Obviously good with smoked meats and cheeses. Outstanding. mmather (113), Colorado, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 23, 2008 Clear mahogany with a khaki head. Huge, strong smell of smoked meat, cheese, pepperoni. Light/medium body. Big smoked meat/pepperoni/black pepper/jerky spice flavors with a hint of lightly sweet pale malt in the finish. Now, if we only had some smoked peppers in here....A liquid Philly Cheese sandwich. Love it Pwn3d (1052), Manhattan, New York, USA

Dark brown pour with small tan head. Really pleasant hickory-bacon like wood smoke aroma. Carries into the pallet giving a nice smokey body and full flavor. Slight bitterness but smooth and pleasant. Really, just an awesome smoked beer. afireinside96 (819), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 20, 2008 bottle shared with me by The_Captain. thanks Mark. pours a medium brown color with a thin tan head. smells strongly of burning wood, similar to walking by a house that has a wood stove in the middle of winter. lots of wood smoke in the flavor as well as a thin strand of malt that it is all standing on top of. finishes bitter and smoky. it is the first rauchbier that I have ever had and feels like a good introduction to the style. lagomswedish (213), Umeå, Sweden

Only one beer to try with this I thought, and immediately ordered a bottle of Aecht Mäzen. It was just impossible to tell where the beer ended and the cheese began, and that just about says it all for me
